Visit in Person First
It might sound obvious but if you’re considering a move to the Eurobodalla, why not come for a weekend away to get a feel? Exploring the area beforehand is a great way to see if it feels like home. Whether you’re after a quaint, small town vibe like Mogo or Tilba, a bustling centre with Batemans Bay or you’re looking for the aqua water of a seaside town like Narooma, the Eurobodalla has something to offer everyone. Get out of the car, take a wander at the SAGE Markets in Moruya, grab a coffee at The Mossy, spark up a chat with a local, and soak in the vibe of your potential new communities!
Do Your Research
Local visitor information centres and councils are a great first step. Ask for any local contacts you could speak with and help you connect with and get to know the community.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council website has all the appropriate info for residents including rates, pets and more. They also produce, Living in Eurobodalla, a quarterly newsletter with a stack of great information helpful to get a feel for the area.
Follow the Eurobodalla Multicultural Group, a volunteer run community group championing issues for locals from multicultural backgrounds and promoting access, equity and cultural diversity.
Choose A Town That Meets Your Needs
Located along one of the most stunning coastlines in NSW, the Eurobodalla is home to a vibrant mix of towns, villages, and breathtaking natural attractions. In the north, Batemans Bay serves as the region’s gateway, offering a lively mix of shops, cafés, and waterside activities. Further south, Moruya embodies the charm of a relaxed coastal town with a thriving arts scene and a strong connection to its agricultural roots. Narooma, with its iconic views of Montague Island, invites visitors to immerse themselves in pristine beaches and laidback vibe.
Venture along the main highway a short drive from the coastline and you’ll find picturesque villages like Mogo, steeped in gold rush history and buzzing with creative energy, while Bodalla’s lush green pastures and cheese factory are a nod to Eurobodalla’s dairy farming heritage. Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba transport you back in time with heritage-listed buildings, boutique shops, and a distinct sense of community charm.
Across the region, trails and forest pepper the region, showcasing the natural beauty that’s an integral part of life in Eurobodalla. Whether you’re exploring the towns, supporting local businesses, or soaking in the tranquil landscapes, there’s something here to inspire every visitor.

Acknowledging Country
When moving to a new area, it’s important to understand and acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, their rich cultural, historical, and spiritual ties to the area. Acknowledging Country is a way to demonstrate respect to the Traditional Owners and custodians of the place you want to call home. Paying respect to their connection with the land honours their enduring stewardship and helps foster a sense of community, respect, and reconciliation. This recognition also ensures that we appreciate the significance of the land’s heritage and contribute to preserving its stories for future generations.
The people of the Yuin Nation are the traditional custodians of the land we now know as Eurobodalla Shire. Dhurga is the language traditionally spoken by the Yuin people, including local Walbanja and Brindja Yuin- from south of Nowra to Narooma and west to Braidwood.
You can find The Dhurga Dictionary and Learner’s Grammar, authored by locals Trish Ellis, Kerry Boyenga and Waine Donovan in Eurobodalla Libraries and some local stockists.

The ESC is always looking for new volunteers across the arts, transport, mentoring, gardens and environment. For a copy of the Eurobodalla Volunteer Guide please contact Coordinator Community Development Rhonnie South – rhonnie.south@esc.nsw.gov.au.
Join local Facebook Groups
Joining local Facebook community groups can be incredibly useful when moving to a new area. These groups can help provide insights and recommendations and can offer a peek into what’s on the communities minds. If you’re yet to move, be prepared that you might not be accepted to join but if you are a new local, it’s a great shortcut to connecting with your neighbours and community, asking questions, and getting advice.
