Gitte Backhausen Art

Gitte Backhausen is an established artist and workshop facilitator, located in beautiful Gerringong. Predominantly known for her expressive abstract paintings, Gitte is a multidisciplinary artist which includes working with printmaking, mixed media and assemblage art. Her work has a strong link to the surrounding nature and with her interest in psychology, this brings both familiarity and depth to her work. Her printmaking, in particular, has a real connection to the South Coast, as she collects fallen leaves, twigs and branches on her walks in the area and uses them in her printmaking works.

A prolific artist with many solo and group exhibitions behind her both locally, in Sydney, interstate and overseas, she has furthermore been a finalist in numerous art prizes, including: Kangaroo Vallery Art Prize, Meroogal Women's Art Prize, Northern Beaches Art Prize, Northern Beaches Art Prize, Blacktown City Art Prize, Warringah Art Prize and Waverley Art Prize.
