Wollongong Workshop Theatre
Wollongong's longest running community theatre company. Formed in 1952, Wollongong Workshop Theatre is a small group of theatre enthusiasts open to the community which focuses on both mainstream and experimental theatre productions.
With its broad and diverse approach to its craft, Wollongong Workshop Theatre offers every year, an extensive season of productions to suit a broad audience base.
Workshop Theatre brings together performance artists from all levels of experience and backgrounds. It provides entry level access to the world of theatre production on stage and behind the scenes, as well as providing a vehicle for local experienced, trained and professional actors, writers, directors and production crew.
Wollongong Workshop Theatre has been integral to Illawarra community theatre since 1953.
At its core, Workshop aims to foster, encourage and support local talent by creating key opportunities for not only performers but locally written and devised works.
At its heart, Workshop Theatre aims to:
- Encourage an appreciation of theatre amongst the members of Workshop and the community at large
- Develop and support locally written and produced works
- Encourage all forms of theatre-making in a supportive environment, whilst promoting it to the region
- Work collaboratively with other organisations to foster an environment of creativity and support around all aspects of theatre-making.
