“GREEN” reflects our social and environmental purpose and nods to our roots — continuing more than a decade of impact as part of Green Connect. “YAKKA” comes from yaga, meaning ‘work’ in the Yuggera language of Meanjin, and speaks to the honest, physical work our teams do every day.

A new not-for-profit social enterprise and registered charity is tackling two big challenges head-on: waste and unemployment.

Green Yakka has launched across Sydney and the Illawarra — delivering labour hire and zero waste services that reduce landfill, care for the land, and create job pathways for people experiencing barriers to work.

Previously part of Green Connect, these services now continue under one clear, purpose-driven brand, as part of national not-for-profit Community Resources.

Why it matters:

2. Supports councils, businesses and event organisers to reduce waste to landfill and meet sustainability targets
3. Creates jobs for people experiencing barriers to work – including former refugees, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and young people
