Activities for dog lovin’ locals looking for dog-friendly spots that are fun for humans too!

Who’s up for changing up their pooch playdates?
Here’s a list of five fab dog-friendly spots to head to in the Illawarra.
Whether you have a precious Pekingese, adventure-lovin’ Lab or an easy going Goldie, there is an activity and pace suitable for your fur-baby here [+ you too!].
1 :: Sand in my paws, salt in my nose
What dog doesn’t like a run off the lead with the wind in their flappy ears?!
Get some sand on your pooch’s paws and let them enjoy a frolic in salty waters at some epic off leash dog beaches.
Head to Sharky’s Beach in Coledale for a quiet beach that is popular with pooches.
Got a cautious doggo? Head to the still pools to splash in. For the chilled out dog, a sunrise walk has all the right feels without the crowds.
And if you’re feeling thirsty after a walk and a dig? Drop into Coledale RSL for a bevvie and relax on the grassed area next to the deck for your pooch.
Further south, check out MM beach at Port Kembla which offers crystal clear waters and warm rays to let doggo run free and wild. Tucked away in the heart of the industrial area it’s an oasis of azure waters and clean sands – and doggo’s are welcome 24 hours a day.
2 :: Eco park and quiet trails
Greenhouse Park is nestled on the beachside of Coniston. This little known eco-park is a fun little adventure for the doggo to explore through Tom Thumb lagoon – you can even ride your bike too!
There are some open spaces and lots to explore with some views across Port Kembla to check out as well as back across Wollongong CBD. A fun little walk especially for the young kids without the crowds on the bike track, with a little ‘off road’ action too.
3 :: Puppacino’s at Smiths Lane Dairy
So your doggo prefers a more refined cafe experience? We checked out the Smith’s Lane Dairy at Wongawilli and it was very popular with the local pooches.
Grab a Puppacino – smooches are mandatory as per the menu – with your dog, not you!
Sit back and enjoy the mountain views. There is a gorgeous produce store as well, so you can pick up some great gifts or local foods while you are there.
4 :: Nature loving adventures
For the adventurous pooch, a run through Puckey’s Estate Nature Reserve provides plenty of sights and smells and over 1.5km of pathways to explore.
With easy trails for your owners to walk along, or some more rugged single trails through the sand dunes, adventure awaits!
If your doggo has some energy to burn, a leash-free run on the beach is a great way to tire them out.
5 :: Cultured canines
For the dog that’s been everywhere and needs a little sophistication in their lives, take them on an outdoor art gallery experience around the Lake Illawarra Art Trail.
The sculptures are created by local artists showcasing the local history, Aboriginal heritage, flora and fauna – and very Instaworthy.
The trail around the lake is suitable for bikes and walking plus there is a cafe on hand for an epic egg and bacon roll.
For the uber-pooch, a ride in your bike basket would be very refined and the envy of other pups.

The Illawarra really does have a large array of activities suitable for doggo’s and their loving humans.
