Meet this local musician who gives all the dreamy vibes with her cool tunes

SHARE

Alysha de Ruyter has us totally captivated with her new song Broken. We love the moody vocals, ambient sound and totally dreamy feel.

We’re also super excited to hear all the new music she plans to release later this year.

In the meantime, we were lucky enough to score a chat with Alysha all about how she came to be so talented and what her plans are for the future.

Check it out below.

1. Hey there Alysha, tell us how you became a musician?

Being raised in the Illawarra, it was easy to fall in love with music. I started in Maya Music for Bubs, moved on to the Thirroul Festival, and finally learned how to refine my passion and skills at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

2. Who or what are your biggest influences or inspirations?

Although my latest song ‘Broken’ has taken a different direction, I’ve always been influenced by the positivity that shines through Jack Johnson’s music, and his ability to carefully shift my emotions as a listener.

3. Amazing, and are there any must-haves you love when composing your songs?

A big recording studio is amazing, particularly for drums, but half of my upcoming album was recorded from the comfort of my bedroom with the Focusrite Scarlett Interface and the Rode condenser microphone.

4. What advice would you give anyone wanting to move into music?

To anyone considering moving into music, I’d say to just throw yourself into exposure. It can be scary recording and promoting yourself, especially with the emotional vulnerability that good music often requires, but once you have work to show, your opportunities open up and you can start growing from experience.

5. What are your plans for the future?

I’ve got some more music to release in the near future that represents my current sound. A goal of mine is to one day be playing these originals with our band Sand People in North Gong Hotel, and the Wollongong Uni bar, places with such great energy.

6. What do you love about living and working in the Illawarra?

Something I’m loving about living here again after a few years in Sydney is how engaged audiences are. Playing live is so rewarding when you can connect with a crowd and people here really love music.

7. Where can we listen to your new song?

‘Broken’ is now available on Spotify, Apple Music and a few other platforms under the name Alysha de, and I promote upcoming gigs through my Instagram account @alysha_de._ .

Awesome! Thanks so much, Alysha.

Now team, let’s all grab ourselves a cuppa, lean right back in our comfy chairs and pop Alysha’s music on repeat.
