Description
Project Contemporary Artspace
Project Contemporary Artspace is open to the public and has art exhibitions with artworks for sale throughout the year.
It is a not-for-profit, artist run initiative operated by a management committee made up of volunteers. Three local artists originally opened the Gallery in 1995, who recognised the need for artists of the Illawarra to exhibit and perform new work. Project was also registered as an Incorporated Association in 1995.
Project provides opportunities and support to a diverse range of emerging and existing local artists, gaining them exposure and professional experience. The management committee and members curate an eclectic program of exhibitions and events throughout the year. The Gallery is a large, open-plan industrial artspace in the heart of Wollongong, refurbished with professional hanging systems, lighting and plinths.
Project is seen as a beautiful, unique & professional Gallery where artists and visitors always are welcome and made to feel valued. The Gallery has seen many artists, art-lovers and friends of the gallery evolve over the years as it has grown in capacity and strength. As a community resource, those who utilise and enjoy what this vital organisation provides for the community recognized the Project's value.
"We aim to live up to our name as a multi-disciplinary artspace by attracting events and workshops from many different art-forms, such as poetry, theatre, music and dance, to complement our exhibitions of contemporary visual arts."
