Luckily, winter in the Queanbeyan region means many, many reasons to leave the house.
Here’s a list of fab ways to make the most of the cooler months.
And don’t forget to check our event directory for even more local happenings across June, July and August.
1:: Get toasty at a local sauna
You’ll forget all about the winter chill once you’re sweating it out in one of our local saunas.
A sauna sesh in the colder months does more than warm you up. It soothes tired muscles, lifts your mood, and leaves you feeling calm and toasty.
Platform Six and W Wellness Centre in Bungendore both offer infrared saunas with packages to suit whatever kind of heat-up you’re after.
2 :: Settle down by a fireplace for a drink [or two]
One surefire [pun intended] way to make it through a Queanbeyan winter is with a drink in hand by the fire at a local hang.
The George Bar and Dining in Bungendore has a huge open fireplace just screaming to be snuggled up in front of.
The Royal Hotel QBN, Troopers Rest and the Royal Mail Hotel Braidwood are also giving us fiery goodness.
Check out more local pubs, clubs and bars here.
3 :: Catch a show
An evening at the theatre is always a winner, especially when it’s warmer inside than out.
The Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre has an excellent program all year round, from comedy and musicals to drama, Shakespeare kid-friendly shows and more.
If you’re more a fan of the screen than the stage, Braidwood Film Club hosts monthly screenings of quality films, so if you’re not yet a member, now’s the time!
Our event directory has even more local shows and gigs, so you can see who’s playing where and start planning your next night of live entertainment.
4 :: Practice some self-care
Winter can take a bit of a toll on the old mind and body. It has a sneaky way of drying out our skin and hair, and those shorter, darker days can definitely drag down our mood a bit.
That’s why looking after physical, emotional, and mental health is even more important during the colder months.
Here’s a list of self-care ideas to help brighten the season and keep you feeling good.
5 :: Explore a local gallery or museum
When the weather is being a bit rubbish, check out some local art and culture instead.
We’ve got loads of awesome local galleries and museums showing off heaps of talent and stories. It’s an excellent way to spend a day indoors.
Here’s a guide to kick off your arty adventure!
6 :: Go mad for truffles
Truffle hunting is an iconic winter pastime in our region, and we’re not one to break tradition.
Local truffle champions like Elvesgate, Turalla Truffles and Durran Durra Truffles run tours, hunts and tasting sessions to help you hunt for and make the most of those earthy, delicious little nuggets of goodness.
7 :: Become a bookworm
Winter’s the perfect time to pick up a reading habit. Blustery days, a couch, a cuppa and a good book? Sounds like magic to us.
Local bookshops like Collins Booksellers and the Lions Community Bookshop are perfect for building up that home library.
Or pop into your local library for a borrow. Our libraries also often host excellent events, talks, workshops and classes… so many ways to stay warm and entertained.
8 :: Have a romantic staycation or mini break
Book a local or nearby stay and snuggle season is officially ON. Cosy cuddles, quiet time, and maybe even a sneaky sleep-in.
A romantic mini-break close to home means less time on the road and more time to relax, reconnect, and share some body heat… wink wink.
Head to our directory for some local accommodation ideas.
9 :: Become a burger connoisseur
Indulge in a little [or a lot] of comfort food by making your way through this list of good-tasting and good-looking burgers all around town.
Serviettes and stretchy pants at the ready!
Yep, this list is sure to keep you in good spirits for the winter ahead.
And don’t forget to keep an eye on our socials and event directory for year-round fun.
Bundle up and let’s get out there!
