1 // Parks And Skate Parks
There are so many fab parks and playgrounds for kids to get outdoors and for you to kick back in some green space while they swing, climb and jump.
Queen Elizabeth II Park right in the centre of Queanbeyan is a popular spot and has a wet play area that’s great for the warmer months. Nearby, you’ll also find Queanbeyan Park, which has a playground and a large oval ideal for a family cricket match.
Braidwood Park is also a goodie and close to Bungendore Skatepark, for all your little rollers.
In Braidwood, you can visit the Recreation Grounds and Playground as well as Ryrie Park.
If that’s not enough playground fun, you’re kids are gonna love the next activity on our list.
2 // Playground Hopping In Googong
There are SO MANY playgrounds in Googong that you could easily spend a day [or a whole weekend] jumping between them.
You’ve got the all-abilities playground, Lovegrove Park, the Yerradhang-Nguru – Gumnut Camp with beautiful views and an outdoor ping pong table [BYO bat + balls] and Duncan Fields which has mini trampolines and a half basketball court.
There’s an excellent pump track on Glenrock Drive, a skatepark on Wellsvale Drive and Putt Putt course and Frisbee Golf on Hegarty Street [BYO putting gear and frisbees].
3 // The Saddle Camp
Have you got a little one who just luuuuuuuurves horses? Then they will absolutely adore a visit to The Saddle Camp.
Choose from mini adventure rides, whole-day experiences and even overnight camps, they all sound wonderful. They also offer horseriding lessons and there’s a cafe onsite so the grown-ups can have a chill whilst the kids go clip-clopping.
4 // Rainbow Springs Fly Fishing School
You know the saying: teach a man how to fish and you’ll feed him for a lifetime… does the same go for kids?
If you’re curious to know the answer then why not sign the whole family up for fly fishing lessons with Rainbow Springs Fly Fishing School?
Learn to fly fish for trout and be guided by expert instructors who have loads of secrets to share.
5 // The Scar Dog Park And BMX Track
A great day out for both your kids and your fur babies. Let the kiddos roll, ride and jump around the tailor-made public jump and pump track. Designed for riders of all levels and as a place to progress, it’s pretty neato.
And the Scar Dog Park is right nearby so your puppers can let loose as well.
6 // Queanbeyan Pool And Aquatic Centre
The place to be in the warmer months. With the wet play area, 50m outdoor pool, electric BBQs and kiosk, it’s easy-peasy to while away a whole sunny day here. The 25m indoor pool is open all year round for the cooler months too.
Other public pools open for the summer season include Captains Flat Public Swimming Pool, Bungendore Public Swimming Pool and Braidwood Memorial Swimming Pool.
7 // Check Out A Local Heritage Walk
Get the kids out and about whilst also exploring the interesting history of our region because learning is cool!
Queanbeyan Heritage Walk comes with an interactive map on Visit Queanbeyan-Palerang’s website so you can fully immerse yourselves.

Get ‘em off the screens and into the green with a local bushwalk.
Googong Foreshores has plenty of family-friendly trails as well as opportunities for picnicking, canoeing, sailing, fishing and even swimming in certain areas.
For something a bit more challenging [best for school-aged kids and older], hit up The Big Hole walking track which is around 4km and takes you to a super cool sinkhole right inside Deua National Park.
9 // Galleries And Museums
There’s plenty of incredible local art in our region to inspire our mini budding artists.
Popular places to visit include the Queanbeyan Art Society, Rusten House Art Centre, No Name Lane, and the Braidwood Regional Arts Gallery.
The Queanbeyan Museum is also worth a visit for its interesting exhibits. If you have a sports star in the making then take them to the Queanbeyan Sporting Gallery which celebrates our past and present sporting heroes.
10 // Pack A Picnic
Fill a basket with mini sangas, fruit, crackers and water and head to a local picnic spot.
A trip to the Dasyurus picnic area right on the Mongarlowe River might see you spotting fishies and platypuses. And Apple Box Flat picnic area is surrounded by bush trails as well as the Queanbeyan River close by.
11 // Visit The Library
We adore a library for all the fantastic things they offer to our community. You’ll find public libraries in Queanbeyan, Braidwood and Bungendore and they often run kid-friendly events like movie nights, crafternoons and baby programs.
12 // The Mill Cafe
A trip to The Mill Cafe is a win-win kind of thing. The adults can enjoy a nice cuppa and something tasty whilst the kids make the most of the cubby house and toys in the courtyard.
Oh and did we mention they do pancakes? YES!
13 // Sweet Treats
Sure you’ll have to deal with the sugar rush after, but a trip to a local sweet shop is a guaranteed hit for a special occasion.
Bungendore Lolly Shop is filled with all manner of sweet surprises and Much To Do About Chocolate in Braidwood is a chocoholic dream.
Also in Braidwood, Oscar’s Donuts serves up some eye-boggling [and mouth-watering] bites, and Ciao Cafe in Queanbeyan is a must for cake lovers.
Well, hopefully, these ideas will have someone all worn out and sleeping soundly tonight [probably the adults, haha].
