Guide To A Dog-Friendly Sapphire Coast

SHARE

If you’re anything like us, our dogs are more than pets- they’re family! With leash-free beaches, scenic walks, and plenty of pet-friendly spots to eat, the Sapphire Coast has lots to offer our favourite companions on a day out.

Be sure to check out the full list of Bega Valley Shire Council dog walking areas here.

1. Beaches & Coastal Walks

Beares beach in Bermagui is a year-round dog-friendly beach, perfect for a seaside frolic. If you’re in Merimbula head to Short Point headland, a popular dog free area where you can grab a coffee at High Tide and a chinwag with fellow dog lovers. It’s also a  great place to catch a glimpse of migrating whales in the Spring months. There’s also Jiguma Beach (Lions Park Beach) in Pambula or Aislings Beach in Eden. Both are leash-free, and great spots for pups to run and swim freely.

2. Scenic Walking Trails

The Merimbula Boardwalk is a scenic stroll (leash-on) with lovely lake views, while the Lake Street Shared Path in Merimbula and Mogareeka Inlet in Tathra both welcome dogs and make for fantastic coastal explorations.

3. Pet-Friendly Cafés & Breweries

We’re pretty lucky here on the Sapphire Coast, with so many cafes that are dog friendly.

Take your pick from Mormors, Waterfront Cafe, Bar Beach Kiosk, Fleetwood, Market Street, Sunny’s, in Merimbula.

Enjoy a coffee with your dog on the back deck at Toast in Pambula (or in their lovely backyard in Eden), Aqua by the beach or pitch up in the outdoor area of Dulcie’s Cottage for a burger.

Longstocking Brewery in Pambula offers outdoor areas where your dog can relax by your side or Mitchies Espresso Bar, right on the beach at Mitchies Jetty.

4. Nature Reserves & Wetlands

The Panboola Wetlands in Pambula has designated dog-friendly trails, providing a tranquil setting for walks. Just remember to stick to the dog-accessible areas due to the wildlife. The Bega River Walungari Trail is a beautiful river walk that connects the trails at Old Bega Racecourse, Bega River Reserve and Apex Park. This is a scenic walk with plenty of spots for a picnic and a swim.

5. Pet Services

For vet care and regular check-ups, check out Bermagui Veterinary Clinic or Fur Life Vet locations in Merimbula, Pambula & Eden– plus Bega Veterinary Clinic.

Does your doggo need a good groom? Kacey’s Mobile Mutz Cutz or Ians Wag Mobile run convenient mobile pet grooming services.

If you’re looking for boarding or pet-sitting, options like Pambula Boarding KennelBega Valley Pet Care and Sapphire Coast Kennelsand Cattery in Kalaru will take care of your beloved pooch. And for dog supplies try Platypus Pet Shop in Pambula, Candelo Stock Feeds and Supply Central in Eden for supplies, treats, toys and more.

6. Adoption and Welfare Services

Considering adoption or want to make a difference? Animal Welfare League NSW – Far South Coast Branch in Bega offers pet adoption, low-cost desexing, and fosters animals. They host fun events like Santa Paws to help raise funds for our furry friends and are always looking for new volunteers and foster carers.

For wildlife rescue, Wires Far South East branch works to protect and care for sick, injured or orphaned animals, often needing extra helping hands to keep up with local efforts. Joining their team is a great way to get involved and support native wildlife! Check it out here.
