Our Perfect Day In Bermagui

Whether you’re a local planning a slow weekend, coming from the Eurobodalla or down south for a daytrip, or showing off Bermi to visiting friends, here are some great ideas for a delicious, joy-filled day soaking up the best of our little Bermi.

Morning: Bread, Boats & A Creative Spark

Start your day with a carb-fuelled pit stop at Honorbread. Crunchy crusts, unctuous pastry, and that warm sourdough smell that makes you feel like everything’s going to be okay. If sambo’s on steroids is your thing, another great option is Nancy’s [currently on a Winter break] with an ever-changing line-up of sandwiches that are something else!

Caffeinate at Boneless, then ease into the day with a creative moment. Book a pottery session at Bandicoot Pottery, browse beautiful ceramics at Mudworks, or try an art class at Frame & Brush or Brush Bermagui at the GrimmHewitt Studio.

If the weather’s playing nice, hit the water and hire a boat, kayak or canoe from Bermagui bait & Tackle, or book a guided river tour with Navigate Expeditions to see the Bermi River from a new perspective.

Bonus: In whale season (September-ish), head out to sea with Sapphire Coastal Adventures and catch a glimpse of the magical southern migration.

Mid-morning: Swim, Surf Or Snorkel

Cool off with a dip in the iconic Blue Pool, a stunning ocean-fed rock pool and a safe, shallow spot to introduce kids to snorkelling.

Surfers [or learners!] can book a session with the folk at Camel Rock Surf School, or take the beautiful Camel Rock to Murunna Point walk. This cliff top, coastal trail offers spectacular views, and is full of local cultural and natural significance.

By this point your stomach might be saying hello- time to head over to Camel Rock Brewhouse, a local fave on the coast.
Sip your way through a to-notch lineup of house brews, from crisp pale ales and extra pale ales to rich porters, saisons and barrel-aged old ales.
The menu’s packed with hearty fair like ribs, southern style chicken, burgers, fish and chips and some great vego options. Everyone will be happy!

If you’ve got little ones there’s plenty to keep them busy. [Or if you’re a big kid at heart like us!] Take on 18 holes of Gold Rush Fever mini‑golf, bounce around on the giant jumping pillow or battle it out over a game of jumbo chess.

With live music most weekends in the beer garden, stay a while and enjoy the atmosphere.

Afternoon: Stroll, Shop & Soak It All In

Walk off lunch with a browse through some of Bermi’s boutiques and second-hand gems. Stop into Drift or She, or hunt for treasures at Strangers in Paradise and the OK Shed Op Shop.

Get your art fix at Shop7 Art Space, showcasing works from local artists, or swing by Frame & Brush for a mix of art supplies, and small exhibitions.

Got bikes in the car? The Bermagui Bike Trails are great fun for kids [and grown-ups] and a perfect way to burn off some pre-dinner energy.

If you’re lucky enough to land in town on a market day, don’t miss:

Bermagui Growers and Makers Market, Thursdays from 3.30pm
Bermagui Monthly Market, last Sunday of every month

Evening: Oysters, Tacos & Golden Hour Views

As the sun starts to dip, grab a drink and some fresh oysters at Harbar, perched perfectly for golden hour above the Bermi wharf. Or head to Bermi pub – where the palm trees sway and Gulaga watches on – for a beer and a game of pool.

For dinner, follow your nose to Elsewhere [formerly Il Passagio] and enjoy some morish small bites. Then roll into Bodega Mex and wrap up your day with their signature quesabirria tacos. Drool!

If there’s a show on at Four Winds, grab tickets and make a night of it. Music under the stars in a world-class bushland amphitheatre? Yes please.
