Christmas Seafood

It’s so very Australian to go all seafood-crazy over Christmas.

Prawns. Oysters. Fish. Squid. Lobster. Crab. Oh my.

Below is a list of local spots to get your fresh seafood in the lead up to Christmas.

As always, we’re keeping an eye out and will keep this article updated if any other fresh fishy options come through before the big day.

Bendooley Estate Larder

Poached Australian King Prawns, Sydney Rock Oysters and Dill & Pernod Gravlax Cured Salmon…mmmmm! All orders must be placed by 12pm Tuesday 23rd December.

Bowral Private Chef

Skip the seafood scramble this Christmas! Bowral Private Chef is sourcing the freshest goodies direct from the Sydney Fish Markets and offering local delivery or easy Bowral pick-up. Perfect for anyone wanting standout festive seafood without the mad dash to Sydney.

Friendly Alex and his van will be set up outside Highlands Fuel on Bong Bong Street in Bowral. He is there every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

On Christmas Eve [Tuesday 24 December] he’ll be set up from 4am – 3pm [it’s not a typo folks, that’s 4am] with a van overflowing with the freshest seafood from the South Coast.

It’s first in, first served so set your alarms. However, if you are after whole fish or live seafood for the special day, then Alex is taking orders from the beginning of December.

And it’s cash only so load up on the moolah.

Bundanoon Butcher

This friendly, local butcher is open Monday – Saturdays, with fresh seafood available on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Pre-order to avoid disappointment, however you can also pop in to purchase their range of all the Chrismassy-seafood-goodness you’d expect.

Simon’s Gourmet Butchery

Located in Springetts Arcade in Bowral, this fabulous and busy butcher usually has fresh seafood available at the counter on Friday and Saturdays.

And for Christmas, they’ll have all the family favourites.

Check out this list – oysters, prawns, whole fish, lobsters, Balmain Bugs, Moreton Bay Bugs, green prawns, and their super popular item which swims off the shelves at Christmas…..a full side of fresh salmon, pin boned and ready to serve up on Christmas Day.

There’s no cut off for orders – you can swing by and see what’s there – but if you want to get organised and guarantee yourself some of that seafood deliciousness, pre-order and then pop back in to pick it up just before the big day.

New Astor Cafe

The New Astor Café has a great range of fresh seafood available. They will be open all Christmas Eve as well.

Harris Farm

The seafood store inside Harris Farm is always overflowing with fresh seafood but there may be a line up so ring ahead or go as soon as they open!

Orders will open at the beginning of December and last year they closed around the 22nd so we’re thinking this year might be the same.
