Changes For Southern Highlands Businesses: What You Need To Know

As the new financial year kicks off, there are a few key updates and reporting obligations that local Highlands businesses should have on their radar. We’ve rounded up the main changes, along with handy links, to help keep you informed and up to date.

Business Name & Company Fees
ASIC will bump up business name renewal fees from $44 to $45 (1 year), and $102 to $104 (3 years).
Company registration rises from $597 to $611, and annual reviews from $321 to $329. 

Minimum Wage Increase
The National Minimum Wage goes up by 3.5%, to $ 24.95/hour ($ 948/week), affecting pay periods starting on or after 1 July. 

Super Guarantee Hits 12%
Employer contributions to super rise from 11.5% to 12% on all eligible earnings. This is the final scheduled increase. 

Paid Parental Leave Super Guarantee
The ATO will now pay super on government-funded Parental Leave Pay, starting 1 July. 

EBD- Changes For Businesses What You Need To Know 1

No More ATO Interest Deductions
You can no longer claim tax deductions for interest (GIC/SIC) on ATO debt incurred from 1 July 2025 onwards. 

Energy Bill Relief Rebates
Eligible small business electricity bills may receive up to $150 in rebates across 2025 (in two $75 instalments). 

Right to Disconnect for Small Businesses
From 26 August 2025, employees can refuse work-related contact outside business hours. Right to Disconnect laws will apply to small businesses (fewer than 15 staff).

Country of Origin Labelling for Seafood
From 1 July 2026, hospitality businesses must include country of origin labelling for seafood. A 12-month transition period is now underway, with guidance being released in stages.
