Bowral Long Lunch Is Back For Its 20th Year

It started as a local charity lunch… now it’s one of the Highlands’ most loved spring traditions. Here’s the story behind the Bowral Long Lunch.

A rustic barn with wooden siding, large open doors, and potted trees flanks a stone path. The sky is clear with scattered clouds, creating a serene atmosphere.

Pop Sunday 19th October in the diary, because The Stables at Bendooley Estate is about to host one heck of a spring party.

This will be the 20th Bowral Long Lunch Charity Event [yep, two whole decades!] and it’s lining up all the good stuff – incredible food and wine, live art, premium auction goodies, raffles, live music and of course, plenty of dancing.

Why does the Bowral Long Lunch matter?

It’s not just a fabulous day out. Over the years, the Bowral District Children’s Foundation (BDCF) has raised more than $1.7 million through events like this – pretty amazing, right?

That money has gone straight back into the community: from upgrades and extra staff at Bowral Children’s Hospital, to youth mentors in local schools, to case workers and coordinators through Reframe and Popin. They’ve also supported mental health education with BATYR and The Butterfly Foundation, and given a boost to The Highlands Youth Co-lab.

Four friends lying on grass, heads together, smiling joyfully. One wears a green beanie, another red headphones, creating a warm, cheerful vibe.

Who’s behind the fundraising magic?

The BDCF is powered by a committed (and completely voluntary) committee, with extra support from Friends of the Foundation who help pull off events like this.

It’s also a registered Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), so donations are tax-deductible – every dollar going straight to the people and charities supporting Highlands kids and teens. The Foundation first kicked off in 2005 (back then it was the BDCU Children’s Foundation) with a mission to refurbish the Children’s Ward at Bowral Hospital. Two decades on, the mission is still the same: caring for the health and wellbeing of local children and young people.

What’s the goal this year?

The aim is to raise another $70,000 through the Long Lunch and the BOCCA Art Prize – funds that will continue to support vital mental health and wellbeing programs for Highlands kids and teens.

So gather your crew, dress for spring, and get ready for a day of generosity, laughter and good times in true Highlands style.

Tickets always sell out, so don’t wait around.

Grab yours here and get set for a spring Sunday you won’t forget.
