Bars and Pubs Of The Southern Highlands

SHARE

There is no shortage of places to have a wee tipple in the Highlands, that’s for sure!

Country pubs, fab bars, sunny beer gardens, breweries and wine lounges.

There is something for everyone no matter what your choice of bevvie is!

Check out this list of bars across the Highlands for all your rehydration needs.

The Argyle Hotel, Moss Vale

If a casual place to sink a cold one is what you’re after, then the Argyle Hotel is the place for you.

There’s a $15 menu range for midweek lunches, FOX sports on the big screens and a courtesy bus – this pub is the easy choice when it comes to escaping the daily grind.

A great hangout for tradies after a long day and a family-friendly bistro menu – the Argyle has something for everyone.

Aspinalls Bar and Lounge, Bowral

A recent addition to the Highlands bar scene and located inside the gorgeous Berida Hotel, Aspinalls has the largest selection of whisky in the region.

Drop in for a cheeky drink – we recommend The Perfect Manhattan from their Whisky Menu.

Bowral Golf Club

There is a superb bar and some fab dining options here.

Oh and of course that stunning deck overlooking the 18th hole, an excellent spot to plant yourself at sunset with your tipple of choice.

The Bowral Hotel

The Bowral Hotel or “The Bowral” has made some cosmetic changes over the years and is all the better for it.

Pop in for mid-week lunch and dinner specials plus they have sports on TV and Wednesday Trivia Nights.

The staff are all smiles, the mood relaxed and the beer cold.

Briars Inn

A good old-fashioned Highlands pub with a modern twist.

After its loving restoration a few years ago we’re so lucky to have this spot as a local.

Relax with a breski in the outdoor spaces surrounded by trees, celebrate a special occasion in the lovely private dining rooms, or snuggle up with a whisky by the fire in the charming Throsby’s Bar.

We adore this Highlands icon.

The Bundanoon Hotel

Visitors have been flocking to Bundanoon since the early 1900s to escape city life and to breathe in some fresh, country air.

The eye-catching Tudor-style Bundanoon Hotel has long been a local favourite.

A couple of years ago, Bundy Hotel was transformed into a bright and busy pub catering for locals and visitors with plenty of options for drinking and dining.

Catch up with friends in the beer garden [it has a pool if you fancy a swim!] or sit by the fire in the cooler months with a wee dram! The curry night and bistro menu are also super popular.

Burrawang Village Hotel

A day spent exploring Highlands villages would be incomplete without a stop at this well-known local watering hole – we love the picture-perfect views of rolling green hills from the beer garden.

With sparkling cocktails, fantastic food and sprawling seating options, family-friendly Burrawang Village Hotel is the epitome of refined, country hospitality.

Editor update: This venue is currently undergoing exciting renovations. Stay tuned for updates!

Cheese Etc

Two of our favourite things have collided here.

Not only is there an amazing range of cheeses, curated by the wonderful Hugh, but now there is also wine, grazing platters, toasties [yum!] and other goodies.

Order yourself something, pop yourself up at the funky, high tables and escape from all the busyness for a while.

Eden Brewery, Mittagong

Eden Brewery, while not technically a bar, it deserves an honourable mention, at the very least!

You can kick back with friends at tables in the brewery and taste-test your way through some pretty awesome local beer.

Think beer’s not your bag? Try the Joshua Tree Lager – delish! They also serve up some amazing house-made organic soft drinks, we wish we could just carry a glass of that strawberry limeade everywhere we went.

We are lovin’ the Boozy Burgers food truck, supplying tasty burgers to beer fans during Eden’s opening hours. Win-win!

Drop by, grab a taster or two, sit, socialise, chow down some burgers, and take some beer home for later. Too easy!

Flour Bar

Now this sounds like a dream come true! Bakery AND wine bar, um yes, please!

Open for brekkie and lunch as well as dinner and drinks, we’re proud to say Flour Bar has it all!

Oh and did we mention they’re also a wine shop and deli?! What can’t they do?

The Friendly Inn, Kangaroo Valley

There’s great pub food, fantastic views, live music and a super friendly atmosphere [deffo lives up to its name!] – we love heading to the valley for a meal!

The Bar at Bistro Sociale, Bowral

Gin lovers pay attention! Gin Trading Co at Bistro Sociale in the Berida Hotel has a range of different gins for you to experience – over 100 different varieties in fact!

With a classic AND signature cocktail list, warm and cosy atmosphere and super friendly bar staff, you might as well move in.

The Imperial Hotel, Bowral

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a comfortable spot to claim as your own at the Imperial Hotel.

Sit out the front and watch the world go by, grab a table for you and your mates in the beer garden or head to the lounge and play a game of pool.

With a great wine selection, cocktails of the week and some of the yummiest pizza in town, it’s hard to go past the Impy for a great night out.

Harvey’s Bar at the Park Proxi

We love this cosy spot for its classy vibe with gorge marble tables and a welcoming fireplace.

There are loads of awesome drink options including their saketini, local beers and some awesome Aussie wines.

We’re loving the recent makeover of the entire hotel and the fantastic Lotus Dining. It’s a wonderful place for a little staycation or getaway!

The Hideout Bar And Grill

A Mittagong venue with fun cocktails, exciting food and regular awesome events.

Make sure to follow their socials to keep track of all the awesomeness.

Highlands Hotel

They don’t come much more laid back and local than the Highlands Hotel in Mittagong.

Staff are friendly and the service efficient. You’ll find everything you’d expect from a country pub – trivia, live music, a central bar, bistro and plenty of comfortable seating options.

Seriously easy, seriously local, the Highlands Hotel is a great value, down-to-earth, Aussie pub.

Kangaroo Valley Golf & Country Retreat

The main building here is sooooo gorgeous! It’s a historic woolshed that was relocated from outback NSW and lovingly restored to its former glory.

You’ll also find here an excellent selection of vinos, spirits and brews as well as a bistro menu with some pretty delish-sounding bites.

Millsheds Bar

We’re obsessed with Millsheds.

Located inside The Mill in Bowral the folks here are all about doing things a little bit differently.

The distillery, courtyard and deck are all areas you can sit and sip on all the goodies Millsheds has to offer.

Make a whole session of it by ordering something yummy from one of the delicious food vendors in the courtyard and enjoy.

Mittagong Hotel

Another one with a recent and gorgeous makeover.

Mittagong Hotel is a stunning and family-friendly space with an awesome beer garden for relaxing to the max. Don’t worry the famous tree is still there and so are all of the building’s beautiful heritage features.

A traditional pub with a modern touch – nice!

Mittagong RSL

The massive upgrade to Mittagong RSL in recent years has given it a whole new lease on life.

With modern décor and a vibrant atmosphere, it’s a fabulous place to relax and enjoy with family and friends.

There’s always plenty happening with raffles, bingo, live music and stacks more.

The RSL is a great venue for dinner with a kids menu, a wide selection of meals for all kinds of eating preferences and lots of seating areas.

Moss Vale Hotel

Moss Vale Hotel is definitely a local favourite.

Affectionately known as the Pink Pub or the “Pinky”, you will find everything you expect here. Friendly bar staff, a casual atmosphere and a place to catch up with mates and some seriously hearty pub grub.

The Pinky prides itself on having served the community for well over 150 years and has a family-friendly menu, including wood-fired pizzas, burgers and the usual pub classics.

You can also catch most major sporting events on one of their big screens.

Moss Vale Golf Club

Dormie House at Moss Vale Golf Club is another great golf club bar to check out.

Grab a drink and plop yourself out on the deck or the patio to take in all that glorious green.

Moss Vale Services Club

For family friendliness and value for money, you can’t go past Moss Vale Services Club, open 7 days.

Members draws and raffles are held on Wednesdays and Bingo is rocking on Thursdays.

A relaxed and welcoming club with an all-important element of respect for our servicemen and women.

The Parting Glass

Bowral’s newest cocktail and wine bar, with excellent drinks, yummo food and quality service.

Also such a pretty and intimate vibe inside… you’ll certainly need to add this one to the list!

Editors Note: Currenlty closed. Re-opening soon. Stay tuned for updates.

Pecora Cheese and Wine

This stunning wine bar tucked away on the main street of Robertson is super stylish and serves up delicious dairy delights as well as some fab casual breakfast, brunch and lunch options, including our favourite – the grazing plates.

There are cocktails, spirits, beer and of course a wonderful range of wines to choose from too.

Ideal for a cheeky date, a catch-up with girlfriends, a quiet beer and of course some beautiful cheeses, this is such a wonderful addition to the Robertson food and bevvie scene.

Robertson Bowling Club

Robertson Bowling Club is all about its members, their guests and supporting the Robertson community.

They have line dancing and members’ raffles as well as other fun events.

There are also tasty meals at Vito’s The Rustic Table and they update their specials weekly.

Robertson Public House and Kitchen

Robertson is the perfect place to chill out with a drink or two, and if watching the mist roll by on a grey Sunday in the countryside makes you light up on the inside, you need to head on down to the Robertson Public House and Kitchen.

From the rustic beams in the dining hall and huuuuge fireplace to the sun-drenched back deck [we LOVE the back deck!], there is not one spot in Robertson Public House that is without charm.

Genuine and welcoming, and with a fantastic menu to boot, this place is an absolute crowd-pleaser!

Royal Hotel, Bowral

Trivia, joker-poker, live music and Friday night happy hour make this a popular spot for locals.

The staff are welcoming and very friendly – we’re guessing that’s the reason why the Royal Hotel always seems to be buzzing with activity.

Although it could be that the food is awesome too! A great, family-run pub with a crackin’ outdoor area.

Scottish Arms, East Bowral

When looking for somewhere to take the whole family for any occasion, East Bowral’s Scottish Arms has got to be up there on your list.

They pride themselves on being a family establishment and have signs reminding their patrons that swearing will not be tolerated. How refreshing!

There is an awesome outdoor-seated area – Scotland Yard beer garden.

As expected, the bar offers several Scottish imports along with a wide range of Aussie and other international beers.

Tastefully decorated in all things British with a big screen TV taking pride of place above the bar, you can’t go past this gem.

The Surveyor General Inn, Berrima

A recent facelift has given the charismatic Surveyor General Inn in beautiful Berrima a fresh look while keeping the charms of yesteryear.

Savour one of the many local wines on offer in the beer garden or enjoy a beer by the fire in the cosy bar.

Old-world charm with a fresh look, friendly locals and great hospitality – what else do you need?

Sutton Forest Inn

Also known as ‘The Sutto’ to the locals, Sutton Forest Inn is the quintessential country pub.

Another pub that has had a makeover recently, the bar is cosy and full of character and staff are friendly and welcoming.

Set in a fabulous rural location with local beer and Guinness on tap, there’s a comfy pool room, it’s family-friendly and there’s loads of parking… what more could you want?!
