Child-friendly Cafes In The Southern Highlands

A list of family-friendly cafes set up to keep the kids busy, entertained and fed in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

Have you ever seen the Kitty Flanagan comedy skit about kids and cafes??

“I know kids don’t like coffee shops. Do you know how I know that? By the way they’re always crying and screaming!”

It’s funny, right? Until it happens to you!

That’s why having a list of local child-friendly cafes can come in handy. Catch up with your friends and manage more than half a cup of coffee before it goes cold at these local cafes set up to keep the kids busy (and you caffeinated!).

Raw and Wild, Bowral

Prams :: Space for prams indoors and outdoors. Easy flat access from the car park at the rear of the café.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: Yes.
Extras :: This place is fab for kids. They have fun colouring sheets and full baby changing facilities. The large, outdoor courtyard is perfect for families (and doggo’s can come too!).
Mother’s Groups :: Welcome.

Raw & Wild Kid Area

Il Pranzo Cafe, Moss Vale

Prams :: Plenty of space outdoors for prams.
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: Yes
Mother’s Groups :: Always welcome

U Jelly Cafe, Bowral

Prams :: They’ve got some outdoor space to park a pram
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: Yep, as well as hot dogs and some epic sweet treats
Mother’s Groups :: The space isn’t huge, so better for the smaller groups.

Jumping Rock Café

The Boston Ivy 1880, Mittagong 

Prams :: Plenty of space inside and out
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: Not exactly but they can help you find something for your little eater from their regular menu.
Extras :: On Thursdays they welcome Wholesome Play who run a sensory playgroup for babies and toddlers from 9:30am- 10:30am. Bookings recommended
Mother’s Groups :: Call ahead to book for your group

Neeny’s Playhouse

Prams :: You know it!
Highchairs :: Yep!
Kids Menu ::
Don’t worry they’ve got food for grown ups too!
Extras :: Although this cafe is inside the play centre it serves up some pretty decent coffee and eats. Win-Win!
Mother’s Groups :: Lots of space for the crew.

Robertson Cheese Factory

Prams :: Plenty of space in the cafe for prams. There’s a couple of steps to get up and over at the entrance of the cafe, but still easy to access.
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: No, but plenty of baked treats and ice cream!
Extras :: The Dairy Store next door has over 100 flavour combinations of organic gelato – yum! And Bliss in a Box (just up the stairs from the Whey Café) sells a gorgeous range of old school lollies, handmade fudge, shortbread and more.
Mother’s Groups :: Always welcome.

Exeter General Store

Prams :: Lots of space in the garden area for prams, and there is flat access from the street.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: The seasonal menu changes regularly and the guys are happy to adapt the menu for kids. They also have plenty of baked treats and regularly whip up some awesome gingerbread men which are popular!
Extras :: Their secondhand book collection has kids books which you can buy onsite. Such a great way to keep the kids busy once they eat their gingerbread men!
Mother’s Groups :: Are welcome. There is a large table inside that can be booked and outside in the garden is a great space for Mum’s to catch up.

Exeter General Store

Courtyard Café, Berrima

Prams :: Yes, there is space, especially outside in the courtyard area.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: Try the Kids Farm Platter – yum!
Extras :: Can provide colouring in activities.
Mother’s Groups :: Absolutely welcome. The outdoor courtyard is perfect for this.

Moonacres Kitchen, Robertson

Prams :: Space for prams
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: Yes, different kids menu’s for brekkie and lunch! And their huge selection of items baked fresh every day will keep everyone happy!
Extras :: Heads up, the recently opened Moonacres School runs cooking classes for kids.
Mother’s Groups :: Yes, always welcome.

The Mill Courtyard, Bowral

Prams :: Stacks of space in the courtyard area with level flooring.
Highchairs :: Not outdoors, but you can prop your little one up in a pram.
Kids menu :: There are plenty of awesome food vendors in The Mill with yummy treats for kids. Ms Pho Canteen, Veggie Nook and The Mill Cafe itself has plenty on their kids menu. And the kids will love the Sweet Retreat Gelato Bar (and so will you – we do!!).
Extras :: There’s always plenty going on in the courtyard to keep the kids busy.
Mother’s Groups :: Stacks of space and no bookings necessary.

The Mill Courtyard

Mittagong RSL

Prams :: Plenty of space for prams.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: Yes, and their woodfired pizzas are also popular with the little ones.
Extras :: The awesome kids playground, Habitat is open again!
Mother’s Groups :: Yes, but bookings essential.

Hospital Shop Cafe, Bowral

Prams :: There isn’t a huge amount of space for prams inside or out on the deck, but there is a fenced outdoor area with astro turf that is popular with Mother’s Groups.
Highchairs :: No.
Kids menu :: No but have plenty of goodies and treats and do milkshakes.
Extras :: The fenced outdoor area at the front is ideal for relaxing with the kids. They have books and Lego to keep little ones engaged too.
Mother’s Groups :: Always welcome.

The Mill Café, Bowral

Prams :: Plenty of space indoors.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: Yes.
Extras :: There is a kid-friendly section in the café.
Mother’s Groups :: Definitely welcome but need to book at the moment.

The Mill Café

Coffee Culture Mittagong and Bowral

Prams :: Yes.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: Yes, choose from sangas, pancakes and more. Oh, and their milkshake game is strong.
Extras :: Colouring in activities available.
Mother’s Groups :: Are welcome.

Maddison’s in the Valley, Kangaroo Valley

Prams :: Space inside and outside for prams.
Highchairs ::
Yes.
Kids menu :: The menu caters for little appetites
Mother’s Groups :: Are welcome

The Highlands Golf Club

Prams :: Plenty of space inside and outside for prams in the large courtyard area out the back.
Highchairs :: Yes.
Kids menu :: Yes, there is a kids menu and they will whip up special requests too. Their most loved items are the kids hotcakes and the cheese and vegemite toastie – yum! Milkshakes and fresh juice are also popular.
Mother’s Groups :: The outdoor area is perfect for Mother’s Groups and they are most welcome to sit inside on cooler days too.

Potter’s Pantry, Bundanoon

Prams :: There’s space outside for pram parking but there are a few steps to get up to go inside the cafe.
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: Yep! AND Kids’ smoothies
Mother’s Groups :: Call ahead to book for your group

Kaffeine, Bowral

Prams :: There’s space outside for pram parking
Highchairs :: Yes
Kids menu :: No but there’s definitely things on the regular menu that can work for kids.
Mother’s Groups :: You can make bookings online

Lil Piggy, Mittagong

Prams :: There’s space outside for pram parking
Highchairs :: Sure do
Kids menu :: Yep, all the yummy things.
Extras :: They often run some pretty kid friendly events in the school holidays too.
