How To Make Aussie Style S’Mores (with an Easter Twist!)

Put the backyard fire pit to good use and make some deliciously gooey S’Mores with an Aussie twist.

Us Highlanders love a good backyard fire pit!

And what better way to put it to good use than to make some seriously tasty s’mores (short for some more’s because YUM!).

Here’s how you can make your own with an Aussie (and Easter) twist.

Sweeeeeeet…….!

How to make an Aussie style s'more

YOU WILL NEED….

1 ::  A packet of Digestive biscuits. Or if you fancy more of a sugar rush, a packet of choc chip biscuits.

2 :: Family block of milk chocolate. We get Cadbury’s but if you like your chocolate to melt faster it’s better to get a ‘flatter’ block of chocolate. The Green & Blacks brand of chocolate is a bit thinner so sits quite nicely on your s’more. But you know what’s even better? The Cadbury Dairy Milk Furry Friends 20 gram chocolates – remember those? They’re super thin and melt beautifully when partnered up with toasted marshmallow. They go together like peas and carrots but taste waaaaaaaay better. Or seeing it’s Easter, you can use mini chocolate eggs.

3 :: 500 gram packet of Pascall Marshmallows. Now, we’ll be honest here. We have tried the cheaper marshmallows – the ones that say they taste like Pascall marshmallows, but they actually don’t. And it ends up giving your s’more a bit of an icky plasticky taste.
NOW, there are two ways you can get s’more-ing!

1 // THE SWEET AND STICKY (AND FUN!) WAY

Get two digestives ready and 1 or 2 squares of choccie (or 1 or 2 mini Easter eggs).

Stick a marshmallow or two on the end of a stick and place near the fire. Remember don’t go in too close, otherwise you end up with all the black bits or a re-enactment of the marshmallow man in Ghostbusters – all melty and burnt.

Once you’ve got your marshmallow sufficiently toasted with golden puffs of goodness on the outside or gooey marshmallow deliciousness on the inside, transfer your toasted marshie to one of the digestive biscuits.

Pop the square of chocolate on top, make sure you squish it into the gooey marshmallow.

If you’re up for it, toast another marshmallow and put that on top of the chocolate square then simply place the other digestive biscuit on top and voila – you have a s’more! A biscuity sandwich of sticky, gooey deliciousness.

2 // WRAP IT UP

Cut up some pieces of foil into squares, about 20cm x 20cm, then build your s’more!

Place a digestive biscuit on top of a piece of foil, then top it with marshmallow and chocolate and top with another digestive biscuit.

Wrap it up and pop it in the embers of the fire for about five minutes – make sure you use long tongs!! – and then fish them out.

Give it a few minutes for the foil to cool down and then unwrap and eat your smooshy s’more!

You can also use this method for baking s’mores in the oven. 5 minutes at 180 degrees celsius should do it.

EXPERT TIP!!

Sometimes, we cheat a bit and buy the digestive biscuits that already have a layer of chocolate on it and make the s’mores with the chocolate layer facing in towards the toasted marshmallow.

We don’t add extra chocolate in the centre when we’re using the choccie digestives but hey….you might want to go for it. We won’t judge you!!!

Oh, and remember to be super careful around open flames, peeps!

Enjoy……..!
