New name, award-winning drinks, and a fun Cocktail-Making Class competition, all at Millsheds
Hey Highlanders! Have you been to Millsheds Distillery & Bar? You may have known them as Merrigangs Bar & Distillery, but they’ve just undergone a fantastic transformation and have changed their name. We were curious about the change, so we reached out to the team for the details. We also found out about their award-winning spirits and got the scoop on a special competition just for The Fold readers. We’re excited to share all the details with you!
Why the Rebrand?
So, what’s behind the rebrand to Millsheds? Merrigangs Bar & Distillery was a favourite spot, but they’re much more than a Bar & Distillery. They also have an incredible event space. It’s not just about the new name, it’s about bringing everything together under one identity that highlights their history and the special experience they offer.
The name “Millsheds” is more than just a smart choice; it’s deeply connected to the venue’s history. The distillery is housed in an old timber mill, and the main bar is in what used to be the original milling room. Picture those old railway trucks bringing huge logs right to the front door, and you can still find the old rail tracks right out the front. How cool is that?! A real throwback! Plus, milling plays a key role in the distillation process, especially when making spirits like whiskey. With plans in place to start whiskey distillation later this year [you heard it here first!] The name Millsheds fits perfectly.
Celebrating Award-Winning Spirits
Millsheds has only been distilling for just over a year, but recently they received some awesome awards that really show off the talent of Nathan, their head Distiller, and celebrate his skills, dedication and crafted incredible-tasting spirits. Their Highland Gin and Southern Dry Gin have been recognised at international spirit competitions.
At the London Spirits Competition, both of their gins won silver medals out of 520 entries from around the world- woah! And at the International Wine & Spirit Competition [IWSC for those in the know], the Highland Gin scored an amazing 93 out of 100, making it the second-highest-rated contemporary gin in New South Wales and fifth in Australia- double woah! The team is stoked about these results and we’re stoked to have these award-winning spirits right at our doorstep.
