Because sunset sipping is ALWAYS a good idea…

We tend to be a little partial to starting or finishing the weekend off with a quiet glass of bubbles, a chilled local wine or a sneaky brewski.

Add a sublime view, fresh air or some cool al fresco surrounds and you’ve got yourself the perfect spot for a sundowner.

Here’s a list of local spots to kick back, relax and drink in a Highlands sunset.

Millsheds Distillery & Bar

A fun and funky addition to the Bowral bar scene, Millsheds has got your late arvo and early evening hydration needs covered.

The location in The Mill’s courtyard gives you easy access to the delicious food vendors on site too.

Burrawang Village Hotel

It’s pretty hard to beat the view from the Burrawang Village Hotel beer garden as the sun sets.

Rolling hills and a glimpse of water on a clear day. Yep! Water views in the Highlands – it is a thing.

The beers are cold, the wine is chilled, and the view is sublime.

The Friendly Inn

This charming pun in Kangaroo Valley really lives up to its name, the staff here are super friendly and the beer garden has some cracking views over the valley.

There’s also a playground for the kiddos to have fun and live music on summer weekends.

Mittagong Hotel

With its recent transformation, we’re loving this gorgeous and family-friendly space.

We’re especially loving the beer garden on the back deck which has been given a gorgeous makeover but still is home to their famous and glorious shade-giving big tree.

Oh and it’s pet friendly too so Fido can make the most of sundowners as well.

Robertson Public House

Such a gorgeous vibe at this local pub, especially in summer with the spacious back deck [and we’re suckers for cute festoon lights].

Park yourself on the covered veranda or hang about on the grass for a late arvo cider.

Berrima Vault House

One of the newest venues on the food and wine scene in the Highlands, we love The Vinery at Berrima Vault House for a sun-dappled spot for cocktails or the Rose Garden with its enormous outdoor fireplace – the perfect spot to watch the sun go down.

Artemis Wines

This boutique winery in Mittagong definitely has a cool, relaxed vibe about it.

Grab a delicious bottle of the cold climate wine Artemis is so well known for, and take a seat at one of their outdoor tables literally right next to the vines.

You could reach out and pick your own grapes!

And fur babies are welcome – we LOVE that!

ARTEMIS

Bundanoon Hotel

A lovely big, shady beer garden is hard to beat for relaxed sundowners.

Add a pool, strings of festoon lights and a handy location in the heart of the village and you’re all set!

The Royal Hotel

While the back deck of The Royal Hotel in Bowral has had a little makeover recently, it still has a super-relaxed vibe.

Colourful chairs hugging high wooden tables, leafy plants and bright brollies – this area has sundowners with mates written all over it.

The Surveyor General Inn

Berrima’s historic pub, the Surveyor General has two great locations to take in some late afternoon drinks.

Watch the world go by out the front of this beautiful stone building under the cover of the veranda, or catch some sun in the beer garden and drink in a bit of history – literally – at this local favourite.

Sutton Forest Inn

The Sutton Forest Inn is the quintessential country pub.

The spacious back deck faces west which means you can watch the sun go down over the farms of Sutton Forest.

Tuck yourself in undercover on the veranda or grab the table down by the big tree.

Sipping your sundowner listening to cows moo in the distance and the wind blow through the trees… it doesn’t get more country than that, does it?
