We don’t think we are alone when we daydream of a Sunday spent sitting in the sun, kids running around, with great friends, food, and a drink in hand, cool tunes playing in the background.
Coming into this crazy Christmas season, these lazy Sundays feel like they become few and far between. So we thought by putting a couple of perfect ‘Sunday in the Sun’ venues in front of you, it may just give you the nudge you need.
Sundays at Artemis is super chilled. Gather a group of friends, grab a picnic blanket and laze on the lush green grass outside the cellar door (very convenient). Order a wood fire pizza or grazing board, and one of their award winning wines, and you are set for a great afternoon.

We love the al fresco area at the back of Raw & Wild Market & Cafe in Bowral. Plenty of space for kids, puppers and to relax with friends and family in the sun. The menu is awesome, a mix of super-healthy meals for the diet conscious and not-so-diet-conscious, a fab range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available, and the guys are licensed so you can kick back with a bottle of local wine, brewskis or cider. There’s plans afoot for the al fresco area too which will it make it even more perfect for ending the weekend on a sunny note.

A fab and family-run winery and vineyard, Joadja Estate is home to the oldest winery in the Highlands. The cellar door is open until 5pm on Sundays and owners, Siobhan and Matt encourage guests to stay awhile. Spread out a picnic rug, order a cheese plate or if they’ve got the wood fired pizza oven pumping, order some pizza too! There’s a fun and rustic kids area and some beautiful views across the vines. Gorgeous!

If a beer garden is more your style, the Burrawang Pub is the ultimate Sunday in the Sun! Live music, cold beer, a juicy steak and the most picturesque views of the Southern Highlands you can imagine. Your Sunday will melt away and you will definitely (on more than one occasion) say to the people around you “Can you believe where we live?”. Tip: If you have friends visiting this is the perfect place to take them to show off!!

This freshly reno-ed and family friendly hotel has taken spending summer arvos at the local pub to the next level with the opening of their pool. Sit outside under the shade of huge trees – pull up a pew at an outdoor table or lounge on the picnic rugs they provide – kick back and listen to some live music while the kids work off all their soft drink energy in the pool. Or jump in yourself if it gets too hot!

The back deck of the Royal is always jumping with a fun vibe thanks to the busy atmosphere, relaxed outdoor décor and it’s location. Live music kicks off about 1pm-ish and the food is awesome too! A great, family run pub in a central location – we love hangin’ out at the Royal.

The Sutton Forest inn has become a real hot-spot for locals and fans of live music. There’s open mic fun to be had on Sunday afternoons or you can sit outside on the covered deck or down under the tree in the ‘backyard’ while the kids run around on the grass – plenty of space to kick a ball around or play a game of British Bulldog – while you watch on! Oh, and it’s one of the best spots in the Highlands to watch the sun set on a fab weekend.
