Eat fresh and green this season at one of these tasty local spots

Had a few too heavy meals recently? Haven’t we all!

Craving some light leafy goodness? We hear ya!

Summer is the perfect time to dive into delicious, fresh salads. With the produce at its peak and the weather practically calling for them, there are plenty of spots around town serving up these tasty delights.

We’ve rounded up a bunch of places around the Southern Highlands to get your salad hit this season because yes, you actually do make friends with salad.

1 :: Raw & Wild Market & Cafe

The name says it all! A local organic market and cafe you just know the peeps here are gonna have the goods when it comes to salad. Chow down on their Nourish Bowl, full of yummy veggies like roasted cauliflower and wilted kale, or treat yourself to a Halloumi Salad with organic mixed quinoa. Oh, we’re feeling healthier already just by thinking about it!

Raw & Wild is open 7 days a week and has an excellent kids [and furry kids] menu as well as a preschooler play area so you can bring the kiddos along for your leafy green adventure.

2 :: Moonacres Kitchen

A farm, kitchen, school and cafe, the folks at Moonacres are all about making fresh produce as delicious as it can be, including salads. Let’s face it, sometimes the humble bowl of leaves and veg can get a bad rap but not at Moonacres. We’re major fans of the Amber Salad with roast pumpkin, carrots, hazelnuts, pearl barley, green leaves and feta as well as their vegan broccoli bowl, you’ll find both these beauties at their Robbo location.

Their second location, Hearth by Moonacres at Ngununggula, Southern Highlands Regional Gallery also serves up fresh and seasonal produce for us Highlanders to enjoy.

3 :: The Mill Cafe

The Mill Cafe is a great spot for a chill hang with pals, so next time you visit why not give their salads a try? The Warm Moroccan Chicken Salad with honey-glazed pumpkin and herby Israeli pearl couscous sounds like a dream and the Buddha Bowl with falafel, beetroot hummus and mixed green leaves is sure to have many a tummy smiling.

They’ve also got loads of child-friendly space for the kiddos and serve a pretty nice cuppa for a little after-salad pick me up… if that’s a thing?!

4 :: Kaffeine Bowral

We love how bright, colourful and fresh everything looks at Kaffeine and the salads are no exception. There are a few choices to pick from here including the beloved Buddha Bowl as well as a pulled lamb and quinoa salad and a roasted chicken and avocado salad which we’re told is a fave with locals.

If you feel like pumping even more goodness into you, try a green smoothie with banana, pineapple, mango, cucumber, ginger and chia seeds… aah just feel the healthiness flowing through you.

5 :: Highlands Merchant

We just adore the plates full of colour they dish out here, eat the rainbow baby!

And maybe save some room for one of their baked treats for afters too, hey we can’t always be saints, right?

6 :: Exeter General Store

Locally loved and popular with visitors as well, did you know Exeter General Store has got a couple of good salads on the menu alongside all their other delish dishes?

Go traditional with a Caesar or head over to the Middle East with their Falafel Bowl, we’re dreaming of that green tahini dressing… drool.

9 :: Bendooley Estate

If you’re dining in at the GORGE winery and are in the mood for a little green, the Book Barn has a lovely-sounding Thai Green Salad on offer. But if a takeaway salad is more your thing, then Bendooley Estate Larder is a must stop. There are 5 different and wonderful salads to choose from, with vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options.

Skip cooking dinner for the night and pick up one of these beauties instead.

10 :: Hampden Deli, Dining and School

Another restaurant that’s also a cooking school and deli. There’s a real passion for good food here and it shows in their flavourful eats. The restaurant menu switches up every week, and the deli always has something fresh to try. But no matter which healthy bowl of goodness you pick, it’s bound to keep you and your digestive system feeling tip-top happy.

You can also pick up picnic goodies including salads from their online shop to bring to your next get together and impress all your mates.

11 :: Lucinda’s Pantry

This friendly pantry in Robbo offers loads of fresh and inviting seasonal goods. Last time we visited we treated ourselves to a bit of both the brown rice salad and the raw carrot and beetroot salad and we defo enjoyed every bite.

As the selection changes seasonally there might be different salads up for grabs when you visit but we’re guessing they’ll be equally satisfying.

12 :: Harry’s on Green Lane

A Bowral institution, we can never get over how lovely it is to pop a seat here any day of the week. We’re itching to try the vegan Warm Salad with oven-roasted veg and a miso sesame dressing… yummmmm!

We’re also looking for a mate to come with us and snap up the Prawn Salad with beetroot, tomato and orange so we can have a little taste test ourselves. Any takers?

Okay, so that’s our list to get you started.

And for other tasty meals around town head to our restaurant directory here.

Now lettuce eat!
