Another jam-packed month coming up in the Highlands and our Event Directory is BURSTING at its digital seams!
School holidays, long weekends and over 250 events for you to choose from to keep you entertained, fed, watered, active and happy!
Let’s get this party started with some of our cool picks for things to do in April.
DELICIOUS EDUCATION // Troy Crisante Head Chef Quay Restaurant at Moonacres School
Superstar chef Troy Crisante has some pretty epic culinary notches in his belt. From working abroad, being the Senior Sous Chef at Bennelong and Firedoor and now the Head Chef at Quay Restaurant.
And in utterly delicious news he will be visiting Moonacres School in Robertson on the 12th for an intimate cooking class.
He will be teaching some of his fave recipes using the quality produce from Moonacres farm, followed by a lunch around the table with all the goodies prepared. Sounds yum-tastic!
The only thing you want full is your belly, not the spots, so book yours before they’re all taken.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN // Loads to keep the kids busy
Anyone else wondering where on earth the school term went? Don’t stress, instead check out our list of activities to keep kids entertained, parents sane and local businesses busy.
There are loads to choose from including concerts, camps and creative workshops. Crafts, sports activities and loads more.
Ahhh… that’s the sigh of parental relief heard all around the Highlands.
PASS THE SPORRAN // Bundanoon becomes Brigadoon
What does it take for Bundanoon to triple its population in one day? Brigadoon, that’s what!
From very humble beginnings of only a handful of pipe bands “Bundanoon is Brigadoon” has now grown into one of the finest Scottish highland gatherings in Australia.
This is an absolute April highlight and the quintessential community day out for all of the family, beginning with a village street performance and parade followed by a FULL day of activities.
Braw! [That’s Scottish for awesome BTW!].

LEST WE FORGET // ANZAC Day
Each year, communities across the Wingecarribee Shire hold dawn services, memorial services and wreath layings where we can pay our respects.
For a change of pace you can then head along to the Moss Vale Hotel for a game or three of two-up!
For the Mittagong RSL, ANZAC Day is one of the most important of the year and they have plenty of activities to acknowledge this day of remembrance.
ART RIGHT HERE // Retford Park – Exhibition – ’34 Degrees South
We love the name of this exhibition happening at Retford Park throughout April.
It’s called “34 Degrees South” because that’s literally where the artists live.
Bowral and Retford Park sit at 34.8802 degrees south, and the nine artists showing their work are from towns, villages and bushland across the Southern Highlands… how awesome is that?!
Head over and check out the connections that come from bringing together their different personal styles.
You’ll find their work in the Round Yard, the White Cottage Gallery and in the beautiful outdoor garden beside these two historic buildings at Retford Park.

[S]HOP TO IT // Burrawang Easter Market 2025
The Burrawang Easter Markets are happening this month and we’re egg-cited!
This is such an epic event, with loads of locals and visitors hopping into the village on Easter Saturday. There’ll be heaps of stalls with food, fashion, arts, crafts, handmade goodies and a whole lot more.
The main street closes off for the day and the village totally comes to life. It’s such a good vibe and a guaranteed fun time.
SUNDAY FUNDAY // Easter Sunday at Robertson Public House & Kitchen
Look, we’ve got both your Easter Saturday and Sunday sorted.
Make your way to Robertson Public House & Kitchen for their awesome annual Easter egg hunt, plus live music and tasty bites and bevvies from the bar.
The event is free but we recommend booking your table to avoid being left scrambling [hehe, get it].

TWO STEP // Strip the Willow Country Dance at Surveyor General Inn
Now this sounds like some good old fashioned fun!
The Surveyor General Inn is hosting an evening of country dancing and live music. With well-known two-step caller Nicko Johnson leading the way and Bob Rodgers & The General’s playing live, it’s going to be full of toe-tapping, foot-stomping fun.
Things kick off at 5pm and your ticket includes a hearty lamb and slaw roll to keep you going!
Tickets are limited, so get on it.
GARDEN-Y GOODNESS // Autumn Open Gardens and Plant Fair
The much-loved Autumn Open Garden Weekend & Plant Fair is back for another year and we’re excited!
Three stunning private gardens rarely open to the public in Burradoo and two in Exeter will open their gates to visitors in support of the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens, this time on the 26th & 27th of April.
The Plant Fair is also set to be spectacular with loads of unusual and rare plants up for grabs as well as seedlings and plants grown from the gorge flora of the Southern Highlands Botanic Garden itself.
You can grab a combo ticket that includes entry to all five gardens + the plant fair which we recommend, or tickets to each garden individually and a standalone ticket to the fair.
Oh, we can just feel our green thumbs tingling already.

OINK OINK // Pig Day Out Kangaroo Valley at The Friendly Inn
Sow [hehe] much fun at The Friendly Inn on the 19th.
Get set for six races of speedy little piglets, plus raffles and auctions where you can win pub vouchers and cash prizes. There’s live local music, a full bar and bistro, and plenty happening all day.
The first race kicks off at 11.30am and all proceeds go to support local community groups.
Tickets are $11 and kiddos under 12 get in free.
NOT FAR FROM HERE // Are You Lonesome Tonight
Opera meets country… the collab of our dreams!
If that sounds like your kind of night, head to Goulburn Performing Arts Centre for a lineup of iconic ballads from Puccini, Verdi and country legends like Slim Dusty and Dolly Parton.
Are You Lonesome Tonight features a cast of young Aussie singers ready to knock your boots off and blow your bowties away.
Yeeha-la-la-la-laaaaaaaa!
