Bowral’s First Bradman Dash Celebrates Cricket Legend

A 99.94-metre sprint paying tribute to The Don is set to bring music, prizes and plenty of Highland spirit to Bradman Oval.

The Bradman Dash is making its debut in Bowral on Saturday 4th October from 8:30am – 11:30am, and it’s no ordinary race.

At exactly 99.94 metres, the sprint pays tribute to Sir Donald Bradman’s famous batting average.

Anyone 12 and over can jump in for just $5, with all proceeds heading straight to the Bradman Foundation. The races are organised into heats to keep things fair and competitive. And don’t worry, they haven’t forgotten about the little ones – there’ll be heaps of fun games running alongside the races for the under 12s.

Plus there will be music, prizes, a sausage sizzle [yum!] and that feel-good Highland community vibe that we all know and love.

Perfect timing too… it’s happening over the long weekend school holidays.

The story behind the sprint

Here’s the cool bit about that 99.94-metre distance – it’s a direct tribute to Sir Donald Bradman’s incredible Test batting average of 99.94.

Born in Cootamundra and raised right here in Bowral, The Don became cricket’s greatest batsman between 1928 and 1948. His average remains completely untouchable decades later, making him not just a sporting legend but a true blue Aussie icon.

The fact that he called our region home makes this sprint even more special. Bradman Oval, where the dash is happening, is already steeped in cricket history as the very ground where young Don first honed those legendary skills that would make him famous around the world.
