The Fold’s List Of Must Do’s + Don’t Miss Out Events This Month In The Highlands

Winter is finally here.

The wind has well and truly stripped the trees bare and it won’t be long before the dog bowls start to freeze over!

But us Highlanders are a hardy lot, right?

A bit of wind, temperatures below zero and chilly nights aren’t enough to keep us from getting out and about and enjoying the best of what this beautiful region has to offer.

And boy, is there plenty on offer in June!

When we were scrolling through our Event Directory to have a look at all the awesome events, we were sooooo stoked to see there are over 300 events- woah!!!

So. here’s just a taste of what’s happening in the Southern Highlands in June.

And you can head to our Event Directory for a super-long list of great events to keep us all busy and warm.

ART WEEKEND // The Pop-Up Project Open Studio

Your June long weekend is sorted! The Pop-Up Project is back for another year and we’re looking forward to it. It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity to meet the makers, to see their work in the environment within which it was created and to buy directly from the studio door.

The project is a collaboration of artists from the Southern Highlands who ‘pop’ open their studios to the public. This might be the perfect time to find a showstopping art piece for your home!

GRAB A BARGAIN // Cotswold Annual Sale

Who loves a warehouse sale? We most certainly do….Cotswold Furniture is hosting its annual sale at their Mittagong warehouse and showroom so expect to nab something pretty spectacular for up to 70% off.

EXTRA RETAIL LOVE // Score Those Winter Essentials

While we’re on the topic of shopping, let us direct you to our latest visual shopping guide. The weather outside might be chilly, but inside it’s perfect for finding some cosy goodies to help you bundle up and brave the cold again.

Check out these awesome ideas to get you started!

FESTIVAL FUN // Savour the Unexpected Winter Festival

This double weekend of festival fun organized by GROW Southern Highlands sounds absolutely A-MAY-ZING!

Kicking off with Cocktail Circus on the 21st, you can enjoy cabarets, river feasts, our very own Burning Man as part of MIDWINTER at Ngununggula, loads of food and wine, plus opera and jazz. We really wish we could experience it all!

Have a look at all the awesome events here.

CUT A RUG // Bundanoon DanceFest

More festival fun- oh how we love June! From Australian bush dancing to Scottish, Irish and even Bavarian dancing, this three-day celebration held over the long weekend will keep dance fans and Bundy locals on their [twinkle]toes!

MAKE SOME S’MORES // Bonfire Night

Who doesn’t love a big old bonfire in winter? You bring the marshies, The Friendly Inn Kangaroo Valley will provide the mulled wine, hot choccies, a bonfire, live performers and fun!

It’s on the Saturday of the long weekend and is expected to go off – literally!

Don’t forget to grab your tickets before they sell out.

FAB FABRICS // Royal Fabric Festival and 10th Birthday Celebration

To celebrate their 10th birthday Loom Fabrics in Bowral is throwing a 2 day party and we’re all invited.

There’ll be loads of fun workshops and discussions as well as the exciting sounding ‘Frocktails Style High Tea’. Show off your style and skills by wearing or bringing something you’ve made whilst you enjoy cakes, tea and bubbles. How fun?!

Book yourself in for one or multiple sessions and the store will be open for regular fabric sales also.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER // Rainy Day Ideas

June’s weather can be hit or miss. Some days we enjoy sunny skies and calm breezes, while other days turn into a wet mess. And if you’ve got kids, keeping them entertained on a rainy day can be a real challenge.

So, if we do happen to get some soggy June days, here are a few ideas to keep the whole family entertained.

WINE + DINE // Harvest Wine Maker Dinner

Bendooley Estate’s wonderfully talented winemaker, Jonathan Holgate will be celebrating the end of vintage by sharing his expert knowledge with keen food and wine buffs at Leo’s restaurant in the Cellar Door. Book your spot for an evening of great wine, delicious food and fab company.

NIGHT FEVER // Vinyl Disco Night at Burrawang Village Hotel

We love an excuse to boogie on down, so obviously we double love the sound of this super-fun disco night at The Wang

No cover charge, just an evening of ’70s hits, ’80s anthems, or ’90s favourites. Dust off your disco fingers and get ready to hip bump and booty pop the night away.

HIT THE COURT // Pickleball At PCYC

It’s Australia’s fastest-growing sport, has quite the cult following and now you can give it a crack on Sundays with Highlands Tennis at Moss Vale Tennis Club.

SUNDAY YUM-DAY // Sunday Roasts Around Town

Cold weather and warm Sunday roasts go together like mint sauce and lamb, or potatoes and gravy… perfectly!

We’re spoiled for choice with so many spots around the Highlands to enjoy a Sunday feast. One weekend it’s Dormie House, the next it’s Peppers Craigieburn. Then we’ll head to Berrima Vault House, followed by Bundanoon Hotel, and of course, we can’t forget the Royal.

Too many epic roasts, and not enough Sundays!

MAKE MUSIC // Peter Pan School Musical

The King’s School, Tudor House are presenting Peter Pan- The Musical in the War Memorial Hall over 2 days in June.

Watch as these talented youngsters sing and dance their hearts out, you’re sure to be hooked [hehe get it!].

MORE MUSIC // Dillie Keane Live at Centennial Vineyards Restaurant

Prepare for an evening of giggles with Dillie Keane, founder of the international satirical cabaret trio Fascinating Aïda.

She’s funny, she’s got a great set of pipes and she’s here for one night only on the 28th. Your ticket includes two courses and a glass of vino at the Centennial Vineyards restaurant as well.

MORE MORE MUSIC // Ash Grunwald Live @ The Stables

And if that wasn’t enough, we lucky Highlanders are also getting an appearance from blues legend Ash Grunwald on the 6th at Bendooley Estate for an evening of chilled grooving and moving.

Your ticket will include two courses of goodness at The Stables and a night of jamming along with a top Aussies act.

At this stage, tickets are still available but are likely to sell out so score yours soon.

How’s that for some fun suggestions for June??!
