How good are kids birthday parties?
It’s like you can max out on the glitter or the sugar and the party pies and nobody cares cos….. it’s a kids birthday party!
And how good is fairy bread???
It’s also the perfect excuse to whack a pinata to pieces in your backyard – excellent for stress relief for both kids AND adults – just sayin’.
Now, at The Fold, our kids range from 6 months – 16 so a few of us are right across how to keep the kids happy and busy [and parents fed and watered] when it’s time to celebrate a birthday.
From toddler to teen and every age in between, here’s 16 kids birthday party ideas for upping the celebration fun factor in the Southern Highlands.
1 :: Movies and Pizza
An awesome idea for that tricky tween age where kids are just a little bit too old for jumping castles but still aren’t too cool for school [and their parents].
Head to Empire Cinema in Bowral followed by pizza at the casual and relaxed BD’s Woodfired Pizza and Pasta which is just a short walk up Bong Bong Street from the cinema – they also have a private function room that can fit up to 20 people if you’re keen to ‘contain’ the tweens a little.
2 :: Highlands Entertainment Centre
The Highlands Entertainment Centre in Mittagong is a local go-to for good reason, especially now it’s been renovated and has a snazzy putt putt course.
Choose from a tenpin bowling party, arcade games party, mini golf party or combine all three. Food and drinks and more included in their party packages that start from $25 a person.
3 :: Bowral Bowling Club
Did you know Bowral Bowling Club hosts kids parties?
Perfect for when the weather warms up [or crackin’ winter days], the parties are outside and the kids can have a go at bowls, play fun games like Giant Jenga and the bean bag toss and have fun climbing in the cubby tree house. There’s also a fun indoor play kid’s play corner too.
4 :: Fairy Tales
How does a gorgeous Fairy Party sound?
Allegra the Fairy hosts Bespoke Fairy Parties, and they are soooo dreamy and cute! Packages include a birthday present for the birthday fairy, gifts for all kids, a glitter and fairy make over, lots of games, dance time [super necessary in fairy land – also necessary to burn off energy from over-consumption of fairy bread and fairy cordial] and story time [necessary for the post-fairy bread slump].
Super reasonable prices too. Love it!
5 :: Berrima fun
For smaller kids, park yourself at Berrima Marketplace Playground which is a favourite with the little ones.
Load up the picnic basket with snacks and then head to The Lolly Swagman for some yummy treats – actually maybe do that yourself in case ‘kids in a candy store’ turns into ‘a bull in a China shop’ sort of situation!
For teens who can swim and have their birthday in the warmer months, head to the Berrima Reserve at the end of Oxley Street for cooling off in the river. Set up a portable BBQ for some snag sangas and blow up a few inflatables for some summer time celebrations.
6 :: Neeny’s Playhouse
Another local fave for parents of mini-Highlanders thanks to Neeny’s Playhouse being perfectly set up for little kids to climb, jump, slide and run around like crazy!
A multilevel play area, jumping castle, climbing wall and a toddler favourite – the ball pit! – keeps kids busy and excited [and boy, do they sleep well after a Neeny’s party!!!]. Party packages start from $20pp.
7 :: The Venue
The Venue in Bowral got a makeover a couple of years ago and it’s now filled to the brim with arcade games, pool tables, foosball tables, video games and more.
They’ve also got a separate room for karaoke and some dancing! Ideal for tweens and teens, it’s super central and affordable.
8 :: Redleaf Farm Tour
We have some amazing properties and farms in the Highlands and it’s super special to get a feel for farm life.
Redleaf Farm host farm tours and can bespoke it up for you to include catering and a bit of fun in the dam on their property – Katrina and Sam are big believers in kids getting muddy and are super passionate about sharing their amazing animals [they’ve got a camel now!] and farm life.

9 :: Party At Home
There’s plenty of party and event hire companies in the Highlands to help you kit out the backyard, the lounge or garage for hosting a party at home.
How flippin’ cute do the awesome unique party experiences at Boho & Ivy sound? Harry Potter, Teepees, Pirates, Peter Rabbit, Disco and more. We just love them all.
Hit up Kreative Kids Party Hire for balloons, backgrounds and themed props and party stuff. Check out Laguna Events for loads of awesome lighting and event hire options as well.
Add in a jumping castle or obstacle course from Castle Kingdom and you’ll have very happy [and sweaty] kids! Actually, if it’s hot, hire one of their water slides and a slushie machine. Problem solved!

Let the kids go hopping mad on the trampolines at Flip Out in Mittagong.

12 :: Action At PCYC
Did you know PCYC Southern Highlands in Mittagong host birthday parties too? Their packages include a dedicated party host, full use of the space and the equipment that you need, designated areas for guests and refreshments, set up and clean up [yay!] and you can add on food and cake if you need to, or bring it all in yourself.

13 :: Art Parties
At the Studio Mary Lou space in Bowral [or they can come to you], the wonderfully creative party team will guide the kids through making birthday cards, beaded wands and crowns, galaxy jars, magic potion or making something from the jewllery bar. It all depends on age and what the birthday person wants! And let someone else do all the art and craft clean up – hooray!
14 :: Franquette Creperie Parties
This sounds so ‘ooh la la’ and we love it!
At this gorge creperie in Bowral, party goers can enjoy a nommy crepe and dink plus a French lolly bag.

Treat your little ones to a bit of pampering with this awesome party idea at The Hidden Hare salon in Mittagong.

There’s a choice of a standard party for up to 10 kids or a larger size for up to 15.
