Meet The Highlands Medispa Team Behind Bowral’s Latest Skin Tech

The PRP + Hycoox Injector has landed in the Highlands, and it’s bringing a fresh take on skin health.

SHARE

We love a good skin glow-up story! Especially when it’s happening right here in the Highlands.

Highlands Medispa, the non-surgical arm of Highlands Plastic Surgery in Bowral, has just introduced a new piece of Korean beauty tech that’s turning heads [and turning up the glow]. The Hycoox Injector, designed to deliver PRP [that’s Platelet Rich Plasma] with more precision, comfort and skin-boosting power than ever before.

We sat down with the expert team to chat about the launch, what makes the clinic special, and their take on holistic skin health, glow-ups and knowing when not to overdo it.

Let’s dive in…

Alright, let’s kick things off with Highlands MediSpa. What makes you different in the local skincare and beauty space? Is it the services, the team, the ethos, or a mix of everything?

Highlands Medispa is the medical spa within Highlands Plastic Surgery in Bowral. Specialist plastic surgeon Dr Adrian Sjarif was often asked where to go for the best non-surgical treatments, so he decided to create that space. Highlands Medispa is a premium and sophisticated medispa which meets Dr Sjarif’s meticulous standards. He has recruited experienced staff who provide exceptional care and results.

The treatments are evidence-based and there are no hard sales pitches or unnecessary add-ons. The medispa team is comprised of a cosmetic nurse and dermal therapist, each with over 10 years of experience. They are passionate about educating clients and providing holistic person-centred care.

We’ve heard whispers about your brand-new PRP + Hycoox Injector… Can you walk us through what it actually does, and why people are getting excited?

PRP [Platelet Rich Plasma] treatment is a proven regenerative therapy utilised in many different medical specialities. The delivery of PRP into the skin is traditionally done with a single syringe across broad areas of the face, neck or chest. This not only takes time but the biggest challenge is the level of discomfort. The Hycoox Injector allows for extremely precise dosage with a multi-needle hand piece that cuts down treatment time drastically and makes the experience more comfortable.

Are you the first in the Highlands to offer this?

As far as we know, we are the only clinic in the Southern Highlands to offer the Hycoox device. We want to be on the forefront of all new, evidence-based treatments and we aim extremely high in delivering that for our clients.

Did this come about because clients were asking for it, or are you just ahead of the curve? Are you always on the lookout for fresh, evidence-based tech?

We continuously curate the finest options for our practice and our Hycoox device is an example of that. In an industry oversaturated with trends, our goal is to distinguish between mere hype and genuine quality.

What kind of skin concerns does this treatment help with? Fine lines, dullness, uneven texture? And what should clients expect during and after a session?

The PRP specifically is extremely beneficial for healing and repairing the skin. This translates to improving collagen production, reducing visible lines, improving skin integrity and healing skin tissue making PRP a natural anti-aging option.

The HYCOOX injector itself provides us with options not only to administer PRP but to also deliver sterile vitamins, growth factors and hydration into the superficial dermal layer.

The procedure can be uncomfortable; however we have pain management options for those who need it. Our cosmetic RN is a very warm and friendly practitioner who always makes sure clients are comfortable throughout treatment.

Post procedure you can expect minimal redness, minor inflammation to the treated area which generally resolves within 24 hours.

Can you combine this treatment with other skin therapies, like peels, laser or microdermabrasion? Or is there such a thing as too much?

Yes, we generally work with multi-modality treatment plans to target different concerns in the skin for maximum results. A client may present with both melasma and ageing concerns and we would treat those separately.

You can definitely do too much and it’s where our expertise helps reduce the risks of causing barrier impairment and sensitivity reactions in the skin. We have worked at the advanced level for a long time and know the safe-guards when overlapping treatments.

Let’s talk about skin health from the inside out. How much do things like sleep, water, nutrition, and hormones really impact the skin? And how do they fit into what you do?

A holistic approach is essential for both understanding the skin and determining the most effective methods for treating it. Nutrition, hydration, and sleep are crucial for overall health and wellbeing and when any of these are lacking, it often shows in the skin first.

Women in particular must also consider hormonal factors that can trigger various skin concerns such as acne, rosacea, pigmentation and dermatitis. Understanding your personal health history and maintaining a balanced lifestyle are key to achieving optimal results, especially with regenerative therapies like PRP.

If someone walked in asking for the ultimate ‘glow-up’, where would you start? What would their treatment plan look like?

For a complete ‘glow up’ experience, we begin with a thorough consultation and map out a personalised treatment plan dependent on your skin analysis. Consistency is key and committing to a Medifacial every 6 weeks is a fantastic start for seeing significant results.

We have many multi-modality options available at Medispa which allows us to create a bespoke treatment plan with both our senior dermal therapist and our experienced Registered Nurse. Our aim is to prevent, correct and maintain your skin concerns.

And finally, we’d love your top 3 tips for healthy, radiant skin. Got any insider advice or everyday skincare hacks you swear by?

Of course!

Tip 1: Get the basics consistent first before you start with advanced serums/actives. In the morning apply an SPF 50+ moisturiser. At night time you always want to double cleanse with a gentle cleanser. Even if you’re not wearing make-up, the first cleanse will remove the SPF film that has protected you throughout the day. The second cleanse is for a more thorough removal of sweat and debris from the pores. Apply a nourishing moisturiser before bed.

Tip 2: A gentle yet surprising transformation people often underestimate is the power of a clay mask. We always recommend cleansing the skin first, applying a clay mask (avoiding eye areas) and leaving it on for minimum 20 minutes. Clay effectively absorbs oil and detoxifies the skin, leaving pores feeling sparkling fresh. Always make sure to moisturise afterwards to replenish moisture and leave your skin with a radiant glow.

Tip 3: If you are booked for your PRP + Hycoox treatment, remember this is a treatment using your own body’s plasma and platelets. Your diet and hydration should be optimal in the lead up to this for best results. Making sure you’re drinking water daily and eating a nutritious diet. This will maximise getting your “liquid gold” plasma as potent as possible.

Glowing skin without the city trip? We love to see it. The team at Highlands Medispa are quietly doing amazing things with skin health, personalised care and clever tech, all tucked away in Bowral.
