[+ For Reducing Those Electricity Bills – Ouch!]

Bill shock is actually a thing and we reckon quite a few locals have experienced it lately thanks to the delightful rise in prices across things like fuel and food AND electricity and gas.

We definitely had to take a seat when we got our last electricity and gas bills, that’s for sure! In fact, the gas bill was THE SAME as the electricity bill which NEVER happens.

So, what can Highlanders do to manage their energy output when turning off the heater isn’t actually an option in a region where frosts, sleet and regular nights below zero are on the weather radar?

Invest in solar…..!

We chatted to Eric Guilly of local biz Beaumont Air about why solar is a great option for local homes [+ businesses] and here’s what he had to say about it!

1 :: Okay, let’s start with what your customers are saying at the moment. Why are people contacting you asking about solar?

Many of the customers ringing us are wanting to remove gas heating as their only source of heating. Gas prices are through the roof [no pun intended] at the moment.

They also want to take back control of what they pay for the energy they use.

And another thing I’m finding is customers are keen on consolidating all their residential energy needs and services together – electrical, air conditioning, solar – so they’re not dealing with multiple tradies, phone calls, bills and logistics.

2 :: Why do you think solar panels are the answer to managing the cost of energy for local homes?

A couple of reasons. First of all, you’re future proofing your home when you install a solar system. Not only are you controlling the cost of running your home, you’re also adding value to it.

15-20 years ago, reverse cycling air-conditioning pushed its way up to the top of the wishlist when people would be looking to buy a home. You’ll find that a solar system is working its way to the top of that list now, too.

And technology is another good reason. The technology around solar systems – the panels, inverters and batteries – have come a long way in the past decade. They are much more efficient at capturing energy from the sun.

Systems are quite intuitive now. So for example, if you have a solar panel that receives a whole lot more direct sunlight than another panel at the other end of the roof, more energy will be drawn from that first panel.

There is a bit of natural manipulation that can happen. You never used to be able to do that.

3 :: And of course, batteries have changed the game up a bit too.

That’s right. A battery can store whatever energy it gains throughout the day and utilise that as a source of power during the night or when it’s raining sideways which has been the case recently!

Solar systems may be the new mandatory home item at the moment but I predict batteries will soon follow.

It makes sense to store that energy and use it when you most need it – when everyone’s home, TV’s and computers are running, dinner is happening in the kitchen and heaters or air conditioners, if it’s summer time, are pumping.

4 :: What do you find customers are most surprised about once they’ve had a solar system installed?

Definitely the aesthetics. We have more flexibility with where we place them on a roof thanks to the improvements in technology but most solar panels are borderless now and blend in a little more than they used to.

They’re also surprised by how little time it takes to install. A smaller system will take a day, a larger system will take two or three days.

That means they can get onto controlling their energy bills quick smart.

And of course, that’s what customers like the most about a solar install. Seeing those energy bills come down….it’s a sound investment for the future and also for now.

Sounds great – thanks Eric!
