Find out how Property Stylist, Nancy Palfrey helps Highlanders beautifully prep their homes for sale [+ maximise the selling price!].
We’re a little addicted to homewares, Pinterest, reno shows on TV, and may or may not spend far too long stalking/looking at people’s homes on Insta.
That’s why we’re always up for a chat about all things interiors and property styling with someone who knows a thing or two hundred about it.
We loved doing just that with the fabulous Nancy, owner of Property Styling company, Every Day Design Co.

1 :: Let’s start with you! Tell us a bit about Nancy.
I live in Moss Vale with my husband and two boys.
They’re 6 and 10 so keep me very busy.
We moved to the Highlands over eight years ago wanting space for the boys to grow up in and to step away from the busy-ness of Sydney.
We love it here and are very glad we made the move.

2 :: Now, has interior styling and design always been something you’ve been interested in?
I’ve always been obsessed with homewares and furniture.
That’s probably thanks to my father, who had a third-generation furniture restoration business.
I’ve been around furniture and antiques since I was little, although as I grew up I actually rebelled from that aesthetic a bit and tended to like more contemporary interiors.
During my younger adult life, I moved from rental to rental as you do at that age, and actually loved the process of moving house, setting up home in a new space and creating an inviting space to share with friends and family.

3 :: And your Property Styling and Staging business really speaks to that, doesn’t it?
Exactly. As a Property Stylist, I really love working with clients all across the Highlands to help property style and present their home for sale in the best possible light.
Clients can book me one of three ways:
- Whole home property styling [for empty homes]
- Partial home property styling [selecting a few key rooms to style – usually living room and main bedroom]
- Integrated home property styling [using a combo of the owners existing furniture with my hire furniture and decor]
Buyers expectations have changed over the years and they expect to see more of a ‘show home’ when looking at properties.
I offer an extensive range of furniture, art, homewares and accessories for many different interior styles of homes. Every look is specifically created to bring out the best in each individual home’s style.
A lot of thought goes into the best layout of each room, not only for the flow and to maximise space but also for how it will be photographed and that presents online.
Over the years, I’ve built great relationships with many of the real estate professionals here in the Highlands.
We continue to see the amazing results great presentation bring with going to market.
Everything for increased initial buyer inspections, less days on the market, right down to the increased sale price.
It gives me enormous satisfaction to help people get great results.

4 :: If someone wants to style their home for sale, how do they work with you?
Being a boutique property styling company means my services go way beyond furniture hire.
It’s consulting with the home owners and agents.
I spend time thinking about the best floor plan layout and room set up.
It’s presenting your home with the most features and best lifestyle possible.
It’s all about adding the little details that create an emotional connection with potential buyers.
I even offer complimentary interior consultations on what updates will make the most impact and provide wall paint colour recommendations.
Often clients preparing their house get focused on updating things that won’t make much difference to the overall appearance so I’m happy to guide them. Ensuring what money they do spend in updates will get them best value in how the home will present!
I work with clients with different budgets and also offer style now- pay later payment options.

5 :: We’d love to know how you weave your magic! What are some of your top tips for helping people getting ready to sell?
Start to detach emotionally from the home – focus on all the exiciting things that you’ll move onto once the house is sold.
De-clutter and de-personalise to make it easier for buyers to see themselves in the home.
Repair and improve so you minimize the potential jobs the new owners have to do.
Give the garden a good tidy and maximse your curb appeal.
Do a really deep clean of the whole home including windows and carpets.
Stick to a neutral colour palette as much as possible.
Usually less is more – ensure your home has good flow by reducing excess furniture or items that are too big for the space.
Highlight the homes positive features and lifestyles on offer.
If you’re not sure or time poor engage a property stylist like myself to help you.
Think about how your home will look appear in the online photos – first impressions matter!
For open homes make sure the home is really tidy and welcoming.

6 :: What’s next for Every Day Design Co.?
