A peaceful, vintage style cottage just a few minutes walk from the centre of Bowral
Bendooley Garden Cottage has the best of the two worlds it lives in.
Built in 1928, its owners have expertly showcased and more importantly, kept the features of this nearly-century old cottage in the heart of Bowral.
But also added all those contemporary touches we need for our modern living expectations.
Filled with character, it really does exude a special sort of warmth and we can imagine ourselves sitting on the back deck overlooking the super pretty garden [all those pretty pink roses!] for hours.
Come have a sticky beak with us as we wander through Bendooley Garden Cottage starting with the back deck….love the undercover aspect of it, too. Perfect for our dodgy weather at the moment!
The wrought iron chandelier was custom made for the space – looks great there, doesn’t it? And the marble table is super sturdy as well as super stylish.

And, of course, the kitchen is an all-important space in the house and has been designed to be the heart of the house, especially when friends and family gather there to cook, talk and eat [not necessarily in that order!].
We love the open plan, farm house country style vibes it gives off and those floor boards are actually the original boards from 1928! How warm and beautiful do they look?

Let’s step through to the main lounge room.
We’re not sure what we love most…..that cabinetry, those double French doors, allllll the books [such suckers for a full bookcase, we are!], or the way the TV is popped up on the wall without imposing its modern look across the rest of the room….smart!
The furniture was bought for the house specifically, sourced from a mix of Dirty Jane’s and inherited pieces from the owners’ parents and grandparents.

The way all these eclectic pieces have been meshed together to create a cohesive vintage look is what we’re taken with in these living spaces.
Beautiful…..

This sunroom would be the sweetest spot to curl up with a book and a tea or a sneaky glass of bubbles too.
The light that stained glass would filter through would be perfectly magical late on a sunny afternoon.

Let’s talk bedrooms and there are four well sized bedrooms. There’s something about the high ceilings of houses of yesteryear that just make them extra special, isn’t there?
The boards lining the walls were milled especially to match the original boards from 1928 and all the floors in the extended part of the house were designed to match the original flooring in the main part of the house.
High ceilings, original floorboards, tongue and groove carpentry, painted brick……and sumptuous linens. Super cosy!

There’s two bathrooms and a powder room with those wonderful high ceilings and heritage touches including Italian marble floor tiles in the ensuite and powder room.

Let’s go for a wander around the garden. Set on over 1200 square metres of land the garden surrounds the cottage and borders the long driveway with plenty of parking space for cars [that you won’t really need once you drive in seeing you’re so close to Bowral].
One of the highlights is all the roses and we are lovin’ the pink door that matches the primary rose colour in the garden.
How lovely would it be wandering around this Highlands cottage style garden with a glass of bubbles in your hand on an early summer’s evening?

It’s all just so glorious, isn’t it?
We love the types of properties that marry the old with the new, combining an eclectic mix of furniture from different eras to create a warm and welcoming space.
You can stay at Bendooley Garden Cottage – it sleeps eight, has 2.5 bathrooms, a number of living spaces to gather in [or escape to!!] with that lovely garden to explore too. Find out more here – looks like the perfect spot for a stay cay or for visiting friends and family to settle into!
