Take A Look Inside The Granny Flat That Looks More Like A Stylish Holiday Retreat
Granny flats aren’t just for grannies!
That’s what the team at Cubitt’s Granny Flats and Home Extensions absolutely believe.
We got a sneak peek at one of their most recent builds in the area, and you know what?
We’re inclined to agree!
The natural light, the space, the beautifully neutral colour palette, and the super stylish interior finishes….it’s more like an Airbnb or holiday home.
And how good would THAT be? Feeling like you’re coming home to a holiday home every day?
Now, here’s the thing….gone are the days of dropping a small flat in the back garden for in-laws or ageing parents.
Savvy homeowners are building additional properties on their land for loads of reasons.
Everything from creating an additional revenue stream [like an Airbnb or or a long term rental] to building a space for grown children who might still want to ‘live at home’ but need a little extra privacy or independence, providing an extended area for visiting friends and family to stay without feeling like everyone’s living on top of each other….and yes, they’re still popular to house parents but here’s the difference…..
Granny flats don’t look like they used to.
Take a look through this recently completed three bedroom granny flat the Cubitt’s team built for a local client and you’ll see what we mean.

The client wanted interiors and exteriors to reflect a light, neutral palette that would appeal to everyone – visitors and eventual buyers when they put the property up for sale in the future.

Low maintenance materials and colour selection that wore well and didn’t need constant touch-ups were also a priority.

We love that the exterior doesn’t look like a traditional granny flat.
The Cubitt’s team achieved this with gable ends, Hardieplank cladding and the large deck.
The goal was to make it look like a stylish retreat with attractive features rather than a basic granny flat that most people try to hide or almost make invisible in a backyard.

The stylish and high-end finish is achieved through a few key design and architectural elements.
An open kitchen and living area with high ceilings immediately creates a sense of space.
An island bench is also a practical and versatile option.

There’s three bedrooms in this build – amazing, right? – this gives the clients options for how they use the space.
Three bedrooms or a couple of bedrooms and a home office space or a separate TV room….the versatility of having a three bedroom granny flat is popular with Cubitt’s clients.

The laundry is compact so living spaces isn’t impacted and the large bathroom with natural light keeps the bathroom feeling open and fresh….no cramped bathrooms here!

And then of course the styling all helps.
Neutral colour palette for the foundation with pops of colour to personalise the space and add a little va va voom.

This three bedroom granny flat ticks the boxes of all the latest trends clients are requesting when designing their granny flats – opening living / dining spaces, island benches, high, raked ceilings, lots of natural light and quality appliances.
Pokey, tiny, dark granny flats are a thing of the past and we are soooo here for that!

As for what makes Cubitt’s Granny Flats + Home Extensions stand out from the crowd, they’re all about those quality finishes, create designs to suit the personal needs of clients and are super experienced thanks to 28 years in this niche part of the construction industry.
As their client told us, “They built this place as if it was going to be their own home. They were respectful and committed to what my brief and vision was. It showed in everything they did, including the final result which I’m very happy with.”
