This House Has Just Achieved A Record Sale Price For Retford Park + It’s Easy To See Why!
Woohooo – stickybeak time!!
One of our favourite things to do [as you guys know] is to get a sneaky peek behind the gates or the front doors of beautiful homes across the Highlands, so we were pretty excited to check this stunning place out.
Built by local biz, Waratah Building and finished in July 2020, it has just achieved a sale price of $2,825,000 with local agency Stone Southern Highlands, a record for the elegant Retford Park Estate in Bowral.
Have a look at these gorgeous pics and it’s easy to see why.
We chatted to co-owner of Waratah Building, Nick Marland about the process and what the Waratah team enjoyed the most about creating this stunning Highlands home.
“The client is from a building background, so it was great to be able to work with him to take on his design ideas and finish the project to his standards,” Nick says.
“And the sale price demonstrates how buyers in the current market – or any market, really – appreciate a custom built home with smart design and quality finishes, and are happy to pay a premium for that.”
Situated across the road from Central Park in the Retford Park Estate and in an elevated position, the owner was keen to make the most of the view over Old South Road.
“The view was a major part of the build so sashless windows were specified to maximise that,” says Nick.

Okay, let’s head inside and into this gorgeous living space……
“This area is a real success thanks to the finishes,” Nick points out.
“The raked ceilings and custom feature steel truss supports give this area a real sense of space.”
You can imagine entertaining guests in this fab living area, definitely!

With something delicious bubbling away on this stove…..

And there’s a story behind this incredible island bench.
“That’s right. In the kitchen, we have this huge fully formed concrete island which was formed, poured and finished on site,” Nick explains.

“There were also polished concrete bench tops in the butler’s pantry, all the bathrooms and the fireplace hearth which we formed, poured and finished on site too.”
Amazing – how good does it all look?
Such a sleek finish.

And speaking of bathrooms, there is underfloor heating in all of them!
“Yep, it’s 24/7/365 temperature controlled underfloor heating which is very useful in a Southern Highlands home!” says Nick.

“The brief for the bathrooms also included large format tiles and minimalist finishes which has come up really well,” says Nick.
“Cisterns and the flush push buttons to all the toilets were hidden within the wall, maximising space and keeping those clean lines for the finish.”

Okay, let’s talk bedrooms!
“The bedrooms are very generous in size – all of them have built-ins – and there is a third bathroom to allow guests additional privacy too,” says Nick.

And there are a few elements that really only builders would only know about BUT they make a huge impact on the finish.
“So the wide engineered oak floor boards are on a timber batten and ply substrate…..”
Which means?
“Which means that all door sills and thresholds finish at the exact same level as the top of floorboards.”
So feeding into the seamlessness and minimalistic style of the rest of the house.
“The house also has concealed doors with high custom-made skirting boards,” Nick says.

And the clean lines continue with the exteriors too.
Finishes are very Highlands – soft colours, natural materials, weatherboards and neat landscaping.

Just fabulous!! Nice work from the Waratah team, don’t you reckon?
And do you think the new owners will be fine with us moving in??
