It’s good to hang out regularly with your mates to shoot the breeze and step away from your world of responsibilities for a few hours, don’t you think?
Here’s some ideas of where to go and what to do for a day or night out with the boys!
BOWRAL GOLF CLUB // A round and a meal
Whoever said “golf is a good walk spoiled” obviously never spent the morning with mates playing 18 holes at Bowral Golf Club.
Considered one of the best country courses in NSW, it has a cracking view from the club’s deck for post-round festivities!
Get a round in first thing, then relax with lunch from the club’s bistro. There’s plenty of other golf courses across The Highlands too….click here for a list.

BOWRAL BOWLO // Lawn bowls and live music
Bowral Bowlo’s barefoot bowls is a great afternoon out for a group of friends during the warmer months.
Grab some snacks from the Jack High Bistro – you’re allowed to eat by the green (just not on it) – and settle in for an afternoon of beers and bowls.
For chillier months, go and see a band with your buds at the Bowlo – live music is back on the agenda again after our crappy lockdown.
The venue has great acoustics and they get some pretty awesome bands to perform.
Relive your youth with bands like the Radiators and Mental as Anything!
WINGELLO STATE FOREST // Bike ride and bruskies
Home to plenty of single tracks for mountain bikers, a brisk morning ride with your mates at Wingello State Forest is a good way to get the blood and endorphins pumping!
Debrief with some bruskies, and compare bumps and bruises at the recently refurbished Bundanoon Hotel. Try the wood fired pizza if you get peckish. Delicious.
BUSHFIRE UPDATE: Wingello State Forest was damaged by the bushfires over the summer of 2019-2020. They’re hoping to let cyclists back in the first quarter of 2022. In the meantime, head to Penrose State Forest instead. It’s closer to Bundy, has a few single tracks and loads of fire trails for a good gravel ride.
Or pop the bikes on the roof and meet your mates at Welby Mountain Biking Trails.

BONG BONG FLY // Fly-fishing and pub grub
If you and your mates like experiencing the great outdoors with fly rod in hand and wading boots on, book a guided day out with local fly fishing expert, Angus Reynolds.
Angus heads up the Southern Highlands operations of Aussie Fly Fisher and knows all the best spots to find trout locally.
Follow a day of fishing up with some pub grub at the Royal Hotel in Bowral, always worth a visit for their food!

EDEN BREWERY // Trivia with a side of Burger
Trivia nights are always good for a laugh and the ones they run at Eden Brewery is no exception.
Brush up on your general knowledge, be sure to invite that friend that knows a crazy amount of useless and random stuff, order a kickarse Boozy Burger off their food truck menu and settle in with a nice pint of locally made Eden brew!
Oh, and prepare to get a little competitive – Game. On.
ARGYLE HOTEL // After work beers and a schnitty
Moss Vale’s Argyle Hotel has a casual vibe, refurbished bistro, outdoor courtyard and meal deals making it a great spot for catching up after work for a few beers.
Head in Mondays – Fridays for their $10 lunch deal and grab yourself a Chicken Schnitty bargain!
You can also grab some roadies to take home from Super Cellars drive-thru out the back.
IMPERIAL HOTEL // Pool and pizza
For a low-key, relaxed catch up with friends, head to the Impy for a few games of pool, some pizza and big-screen sporting action.
Cooked at over 420 degrees in the wood fired oven, The Bistro’s pizza are pretty darn good.
And if you like to watch a game of footy or cricket with your mates, there is always plenty of sporting events on the big HD screen for you to all shout at!
