Stroll in the sunshine

Let’s shake off that winter chill and soak up the glorious spring weather while we can! Now’s the time to get out and about before summer rolls in and things get just a little too hot [and the pull of the beer garden gets just a little too tempting].

We’ve rounded up 10 walks to add to your spring bucket list, from iconically gorgeous to family-friendly and even ones that will get the legs pumpin’. There’s something for every type of stroller.

Lace up your sneakers, pop on your hat, fill your water bottle, and let’s get moving!

1 :: Cherry Tree Walk

This one is a must-do for spring! This is a chill, family-friendly path perfect for any time of day. Whether walking, cycling, or strolling with furry friends, it’s great for everyone, with no stairs and a flat, 5km track. The path, lined with 526 cherry trees honouring Vietnam War veterans, totally comes to life in spring when the “Great White” Tai-Haku trees bloom. You’ll pass friendly locals, adorable ducks, and scenic spots to rest or picnic. Start at Settlers Park, bring the family, and enjoy its charm.

2 :: Lake Alexandra

Lake Alexandra in Mittagong is locally loved, and it’s easy to see why! Tucked away in the bushland, this spot is way more than just a pretty lake. There is a flat, easy path for strolls, pram-pushing, or a quick bike ride, and plenty of BBQ and picnic spots to settle in for the day [hello family picnic]. Plus, a playground for the kiddos and heaps of wildlife to spot…ducks are synonymous with spring after all!  Whether stretching out under the trees or just soaking in the peacefulness, Lake Alexandra is a go-to for a laid-back stroll.

3 :: Bong Bong Track

Running alongside the gorgeous Wingecarribee River, this 5km path is perfect for everything from pram-pushing to pup-walking and even catching up with a mate and a takeaway coffee. Flat, scenic, and oh-so-family-friendly, it is a budget-friendly way to get some fresh air and burn off some energy [looking at you, kids!] this season. Keep an eye out for kangaroos, a sneaky splash of mud after rain, and maybe even a model aeroplane or two. Trust us, this track has got a little something for everyone, no gym membership required!

4 :: Stone Quarry Walk

This one is perfect for making the most of beautiful Berrima. It is family-friendly [though maybe leave the pram behind], doggo-approved, and offers a river view with some fun, sneaky stairs along the way. Heads up: We know how unpredictable Highlands Spring weather is, and after rain, it’s often muddy, so wear those wellies! And if you’re lucky, you might spot a platypus or a lace monitor! Reward yourself with a coffee, retail therapy, or a cheeky cold one at the local pub afterwards!

5 :: Clover Hill Trail

Looking for something a bit more wild? The Clover Hill Trail in Macquarie Pass National Park has you covered! This 6-7 km round-trip walk is packed with rainforest gorgeousness, towering trees, and waterfalls that’ll have you saying “Wow!” every five minutes. Start with an easy stroll to Rainbow Falls, or if you’re feeling brave, tackle the tougher off-track paths for some serious thrill-seeking. From lyrebirds to platypus, this place is a nature lover’s paradise. Pro tip: If it’s warm enough, bring your cossie for a dip in the rock pools.

6 :: Bundanoon Heritage Trail

For something a little different, spend a day exploring the Bundanoon Heritage Trail. This is a self-guided stroll that takes you past so much history, all thanks to the wonderful Bundanoon History Group. Start at the Old Goods Shed, download the free audio guide or brochure, and let the trail lead you through town. From the old post office now serving coffee to a former nightclub turned Italian restaurant, there’s plenty to see and do. It’s a great excuse to learn about the village while checking out local shops and cafes.

7 :: Fairy Bower Falls

Just a short drive from Bundanoon, the Fairy Bower Falls Lookout Walk packs a lot of adventure into a quick trip. In less than an hour, you’ll navigate rocky trails, snug staircases, and huge boulders, all leading to a breathtaking view of the waterfall! It’s a family-friendly trek, though a bit steep and rocky, so it’s ideal for kids who are up for a bit of a climb. You can also extend your adventure by exploring the lower parts of the falls if you’re feeling extra adventurous.

9 :: 60 Foot Falls

This trail offers a heart-pounding adventure with gorgeous waterfall rewards. Choose your path: the challenging, steep route for a serious sweat session, or the easier, more relaxed option if you’d rather save your energy. Either way, you’ll navigate through bushland, and tunnels, and cross a river for epic falls views. Wear waterproof boots and prepare for a bit of a scramble.

10 ::  Drawing Room Rocks

Just over the border in Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, Drawing Room Rocks is a heart-pumping hike with jaw-dropping views! Although challenging, it rewards your effort with some of the best vistas you’ll find. This 4.5 km return walk is steep and rocky, so wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for a workout. The hike starts at an elevation of about 250 metres, so the views only get better as you climb. The final lookout offers a stunning panorama of the Illawarra and South Coast. Make sure to bring your A-game and maybe a mosquito repellent!
