Who’s a little curious about what’s going on behind the façade on the corner of Moss Vale Road and Bowral Street?
We drive past it nearly every day and were VERY interested to see there is now a whole lot of action and construction going on, as this vacant block gets ready to be transformed into the pretty spesh looking Maynard Gardens.
Yep, they’ve broken ground and it’s all systems go to have the apartment and lifestyle complex ready to move into by the end of 2022.
We spoke to local sales agent, Sarah Burke of Di Jones Real Estate about the French-inspired exteriors, the low maintenance but high-end lifestyle features of the one, two and three bedroom apartments on offer, the focus on outdoor living and entertaining, and of course, the location which is just a hop, skip and jump away from all the cafes, restaurants, shops and more on bustling Bong Bong Street.

1 // It’s exciting to see construction start. Tell us who is behind the development.
The De Angelis family are the developers and Novati Constructions is the building company bringing the concept of Maynard Gardens to life. Novati have strong ties to the Wingecarribee Shire – they’ve owned two farms at Colo Vale since the 1980’s and Claudia Novati established Novati Consulting Engineers in Bowral nearly a decade ago.
Local contractors, SJ Plumbing and Land Team have been brought on board and Novati will be hiring more local businesses to help them complete the build. They’ve also got a number of other projects happening locally too, providing locals with more work and contracting opportunities.

2 // We love the look of the exterior design!
Yes, the French country manor look with it’s low-rise building is a nod to the country aesthetic of the Southern Highlands. The architects wanted to marry up the exterior with the Bowral environment and vibe of the town but then focus on contemporary living in the interiors.

3 // Ooh yes, the interiors are also pretty fabulous.
Definitely – the clean lines, high ceilings, high-end appliances, modern open plan living, and generous outdoor entertainment spaces are proving to be very popular with potential buyers. Some of the ground floor apartments have huge outdoor courtyards for entertaining, and if you’re on the first or second floor, the veranda’s are also very spacious.

4 // So, who has shown interest in buying into Maynard Gardens?
We’ve had a number of lucky people already secure their dream apartment off the plan, including local downsizers who are looking for a convenient location and a low maintenance option. We have also had a number of buyers from Sydney who split their time between the city and the Highlands.
All of them are attracted by the fact they don’t have to sacrifice space, and the way they live and entertain when moving into apartment living. The large apartments means they can still have friends and family to stay and there is plenty of space to entertain both indoors and outdoors and take advantage of the manicured gardens.
Maynard Gardens is a strata development too, which means buyers aren’t restricted by terms and conditions like entry and exit fees, and that also makes it appealing to a younger demographic. This isn’t a retirement complex, which makes it a strong investment opportunity too.

5 // And we would imagine that people would be attracted by the location.
Lots of buyers and potential buyers I speak to love they are a walk away from everything Bowral has to offer – fantastic cafes and restaurants, a huge range of shops, the cinema – and that it’s easy enough to get to the train station if they are commuting north or south. Having all the amenities Bowral is so well known for right on your doorstep is definitely a big drawcard for people.
People are also attracted by the lock up and leave opportunity, apartment living in Bowral offers them. It’s a low maintenance and flexible way of living that we’re seeing more of in the world we’re living in now.

6 // How does a development like Maynard Gardens benefit the Southern Highlands?
The build itself is creating jobs and opportunities for local contractors and businesses, which is great to see.
There also isn’t a huge number of apartments in the Highlands, so it offers a much needed stylish and contemporary downsizing option for locals who are ready to move off the land, or empty nesters keen to sell the family home. Maynard Gardens would also be perfect for those at the other end of the scale of life – young individuals and couples wanting to step onto the property ladder.
And it’s creating a beautiful space in a busy part of town.

Love it! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Maynard Gardens offers the convenience of an urban lifestyle with the distinguished luxury of its historic rural setting. 43 apartments, with a choice of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom layouts, will be finished with contemporary features, high-end accessories and open plan living design. Configured to create a community setting within the atmosphere of bustling Bowral, the low-rise buildings will be surrounded by manicured gardens with Maynard Park on the corner.
