Property Profile: Robertson

Located on the eastern fringe of the Southern Highlands is the quaint country village of Robertson – or Robbo as the locals call it.

Known as the `green heart’ of the Highlands, Robertson is known for its `English-like’ landscapes, farms and farmlets, pincushion green fields and magical mists that arise from the nearby escarpment.

While the village and its surrounding vistas are synonymous with the film Babe [which used many buildings, parks and showground as backgrounds] Robertson offers a vast array of lifestyle options, including is growing artisan food scene; featuring Moonacres Kitchen, the Robertson Public House & Kitchen [lovingly known as Robbo Pub], the Roberston Hotel and the Cheese Factory.  For the arts community, there is the Southern Highlands Artisans Collective [the SHAC] and The Highlands Hive – vibrant creative hubs of art galleries, workshop spaces and creative retail.

Iconic landmarks such as The Big Potato; which has recently become a gorgeous mural to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film BABE, the historic Robertson Hotel which has just turned 100 years old and of course The Famous Robertson Pie Shop at the top of Macquarie Pass.

Nearby Belmore and Carrington falls – part of the Budderoo National Park, and are hidden gems for campers, bush walkers and the like with their stunning waterfalls, picnic facilities and local swimming holes.

Robertson village is highly sought after by those seeking a more relaxed lifestyle, where real country living still exists with a strong and friendly family-oriented community. Robertson features a public primary school [kindy to year 6], preschool, medical facilities, cafes, bakeries, supermarket, liquor retail, restaurants, community centre and specialty retail. Public transport via coach services the Wollongong and Moss Vale Station [access to Sydney and Canberra].

Its proximity to the South Coast and its beaches is desirable with Kiama being just a 30-minute drive.

While the nearby towns of Moss Vale and Bowral have developed and grown significantly in the past decade, Robertson has retained its rural feel and country charm.

Robertson has recently received two awards at the 2025 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards including Silver and The People’s Choice award in the small tourism town category

Altitude varies from approximately 669 to 800 meters [2,195 to 2,625 feet] above sea level.

Population: The population estimate for the Robertson District [including nearby rural locations] as of the 30th June 2024 is 3,763.

The Robertson Market

Leading local real estate agent, Kim Maher from Belle Southern Highlands, said “With many buyers coming from Sydney, the village’s proximity to the South Coast and Bowral, and the value for money in comparison to the Sydney property market, makes Robertson an attractive investment.”

“Properties range from the average sized parcel of 1000sqm with many larger blocks of 2000-4000sqm and varied sized acreage properties.”

“There is very little vacant land left in Robertson, no units, townhouses or villas.” explained Kim, but she added that additional housing, lifestyle and rural investment opportunities in near-by areas such as Fitzroy Falls, Wildes Meadow, Knights Hill and Burrawang also exist.
