The Super Interesting Story Of How Creativity, Chaos + Career Collided To Birth A Movement.
You know when you meet someone that is so full of positivity, beautiful energy and generosity…..and you walk away from them with your head held that little bit higher, your shoulders back, and your spirit lifted?
THAT’S what it’s like when you spend time with Scarlett Vespa.
She’s creative.
She’s intuitive.
She’s authentic.
And those three elements are the foundation of her two super interesting businesses – Mrs V Creative and AGERICH.
We talked for hours when we caught up with Scarlett at her home in Renwick. So much to unpack, so much to learn [about her + ourselves!].
So, here’s just a snippet of our conversation…..we reckon you’ll really want to reach out and know more after this.
1 :: Before we chat about your businesses, tell us about your career background.
I left school early because I just couldn’t focus – I was an ADD kid and very creative, so school just wasn’t for me.
I landed a job with Disney, starting as a secretary and then worked my way up, ending up as a Production Manager working on set with stars like Nicole Kidman and Jack Thompson.
After having my son, I moved into the world of advertising; producing and directing television ads for corporate clients – I was one of the first TVC directors in Australia – it was definitely a man’s world back then!
I didn’t have a lot of confidence to start with but I had a vision of what I wanted to achieve, and once I stayed with and sat with that, I was successful.
It was that inner knowing that I COULD do it and to never give up.
I then moved across to the role of Head of Broadcasting at CommBank before working on a creative project that took me to Cannes.
2 :: But something wasn’t sitting quite right with you?
I knew I had a deeper purpose.
I’ve always been drawn to the spiritual and wellness elements of life. I’ve spent time in Nepal, I’ve studied Buddhism, I’m always reading about different philosophies and approaches to life.
Even when I was in the very corporate world of banking, I was creating Happiness Days where we’d take over a number of the rooms in the building and host readings, yoga sessions, offer massages….it was so popular and you know what? It was the traditional white collared male workers that came along! And they loved it.
So, that got me thinking about living and working more in alignment with my own purpose and also helping others work towards theirs.
And as the universe often does, I found myself going through a very challenging time in my life where I pretty much lost everything except my health. – ‘If I’m not my job, who am I?’
I remember standing in my shower thinking, you know what? They can take my money, they can take my stuff, they can take what I’ve created but they can’t take the essence of me – my soul.
I had this amazing moment where I just felt a huge sense of freedom.
I am not my stuff.
So I started again, this time the universe was on my side.
3 :: And that’s where Mrs V Creative began.
Yes, there are two elements to how Mrs V Creative all began.
I started my own digital marketing agency. I learnt everything there was to know about building websites, graphic design, social media – all self taught!
I was looking for stock photos of older women – I was in my forties by then and was working with a number of women in business also in that age bracket, or above – and I couldn’t find any.
Or they were pictures of ‘traditional grandma’s’. You know, the grey hair, the cardigans.
And I thought, where are the real pics of women in their 40’s + 50’s + 60’s?
That age group was never represented anywhere – in magazines, in advertising.
So I started a blog called The Style Of Mrs V which became quite successful.
We ran events with wonderful female speakers – it was a real celebration of women in this space being seen and heard.
We had created a stylish spiritual wellness space for women and that’s when I realised that was where my purpose was…..and I have built on that ever since.
4 :: Tell us more about how that purpose is aligned with how Mrs V Creative helps clients.
A client’s experience with me is not just ‘what colours do you like…here’s a logo and a website’.
I have a personal session with each potential client where we discuss much more than their business.
We dig deep into their why….I get a strong understanding of their purpose, what is driving them to create or run their business and from that, I get a strong vision for what their personal branding should be which feeds into the way they present their business too.
We also look at other factors like what has been blocking their success.
Why are they blocking their own pathway to success?
These sessions are incredibly effective for the client for so many reasons, and I can then create a brand and a digital space for them that is much more meaningful and authentic to who they really are and the product and service they offer.
5 :: Sounds amazing….and it makes a lot of sense to get through those blocks and do the healing work before expecting success.
It’s a form of business, branding and life coaching AND healing…..it all links together.
6 :: Now, we LOVE the brand and business YOU’VE created. Tell us all about AGERICH.
I had created this space for women in their 40’s to 60’s through The Style of Mrs V blog and it was time for it to evolve, in order to keep the conversation going, and more relevant.
I wanted to create a name that represented the truth about ageing.
That’s why the business – or it’s more of a movement actually – is called AGERICH.
Most of us use the term ‘ageless’ but that term has negative connotations.
Why do we have to age less?
Why can’t we age in a positive way?
Rich in health, rich in abundance, rich in knowledge, rich in spirituality?
So, I’ve flipped the terminology around and I help women to own the ageing process, to be excited by it, taking our power back around it, we don’t have to be frightened by it.
I want to disrupt society’s expectations and language around women ageing, and create a culture that SUPPORTS women to age, and age well.
Our society really doesn’t do that well, at the moment. While it’s starting to shift, I want to speed up that shift.
7 :: Absolutely – preach! So, how does AGERICH do that?
Through inspirational content, practical guidance and alchemy work.
The definition of alchemy is a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination.
I use a combination of tools, remedies, guidance and support to assist in that transformation.
I offer individual alchemy sessions and workshops, which are a fusion of guidance, spiritual modalities for self-healing, self-inquiry and reflection.
They’re very powerful and we have had some incredible results.
These are supported by my beautiful range of Remedy Kits + Ingredients which include stunning candles, crystals, essential oils, tarot cards…all beautifully designed and presented.
The Remedy Kits are very popular and can help with everything from bringing abundance and love to clearing your space [physically + mentally], tuning into your own intuition or just releasing the goddess within.
We also release a quarterly digital magazine, which is full of wonderful guidance and empowering advice.
And I’m very proud of the podcast we’ve created. It’s called REMEDIES for LIFE, MADE by LIFE where guests like artist Tim Olsen, fashion designer Paula Punch, leading coaches and experts in their field share their ‘lived remedies’ from their own life experience.
There’s also workshops and online membership with access to courses on its way.
8 :: That IS quite the alchemy!
Absolutely…it all leads to one purpose.
Help people become the alchemist of their own lives and design their own real-life magic!
It’s amazing what happens when you live your life purpose every day.
All those challenges, my lifetime of creating remedies to get me through….it’s all led to this.
