Now in Bowral & Moss Vale we’re loving this Highlands footwear biz.
Makin’ our Highlands feet look fabulous in Mossy since 2008, Sandy of The Shoe Merchant has now opened up a second location in Bowral and we’re pumped for pumps.
It’s a gorge space, right in the centre of town with that friendly and experienced service we all know and love. We went to check it out recently and we were super impressed. We’re sharing the love, so here’s the lace-up on all you need to know about this wonderful Highlands footwear biz.
They’re the sole of the Highlands
Sorry, we can’t resist a pun! But seriously The Shoe Merchant has been going since 1985.
Sandy took over ownership of the biz from his parents 12 years ago and has been making our footsies look fresh ever since. Sandy told us that his parents actually opened the shop the very first week he was born and he took it over a week after his own son was born, talk about a family legacy! AND the shop that was in the location in Bowral was previously owned by Sandy’s cousin so this is a proper family affair. Since The Shoe Merchant’s opening, it’s had a couple of changes including a name and location change but has still kept that easy and friendly service with that superb range of footwear that makes them so loved by us Highlanders.
The excellent range
Both of their stores have a terrific range of shoes to choose from. Mossy is the big sister to their Bowral location but both have plenty of faves and fab fits to keep your tootsies stylish AND comfy [we’re big on comfy feet here at The Fold]. They stock loads of popular brands like Birkenstocks for the cool kids, UGG’s or EMUs for the cool kids who also like to be warm, FRANKIE4 for an excellent mix of comfort and style, as well as athletic faves like Brooks and Hoka’s. We can really tell they’re passionate about quality and we dig it.
Shoes for the fellas
Sandy tells us that he often speaks to fellas who before coming to him might have had a little trouble getting their hands [or feet] on a good set of walkers in the Highlands. The Shoe Merchant has a great selection of shoes for men including dress shoes, sandals, boots, casual shoes, sports shoes and snuggly slippers. And it’s not just Highlander blokes who they’re helping out, Sandy told us that a fair few times he’s had an out-of-town wedding guest or even groom pop in to say they’ve forgotten their ceremony shoes at home and need a pair, classic!
Shoes for the fam-bam.
Back-to-school season is BUSTLING at The Shoe Merchant and for good reason. They’re known for selling top-quality school shoes for the littles all the way up to the teenies. Being part of the Highlands community for such a long time, Sandy has been there to fit kiddos in their very first school shoes and now he sees them back in-store shopping for their very first work kicks- how amazing!
They’ve got it in the bag
Did you know The Shoe Merchant also sells handbags? And they’re gorge! Tote bags for the busy parent doing it all, crossbody bags in summery colours, petite purses that make loverly gifts [even if it’s a gift for yourself, we won’t judge], and luxurious-looking shoulder bags. You know the fashion girlies and fellas who always seem to have their bags and shoes match?
Well, now we can be one too!
The genuine care
We know Sandy and his staff truly care about helping people get the most out of their shoes. It makes their day to hear customers tell them about the big trip with no blisters because of The Shoe Merchant, or the customers who can run a walk with comfort and the kiddos who look super duper cute in their little black shoes on their first day of school. Shoes are life for Sandy and his family and it totally shows as soon as you step foot in either of their stores. We love passionate locals in the Highlands and we loooooooove stylish footwear.
