What To Consider Before Engaging Your Southern Highlands Wedding Photographer
We know we’re biassed but honestly, it’s pretty hard to beat the Southern Highlands as one of the best places to host a wedding in well….anywhere, really!
With our gorgeous landscapes, stunning natural beauty and range of picturesque venues, you really can’t go wrong.
So, you want to make sure you capture that perfection, right?
Choosing the right wedding photographer is crucial to creating life-long memories of your Southern Highlands wedding.
So, if you’re in planning mode and looking for an awesome wedding photographer in the Highlands, we’ve compiled this list of helpful tips so you can find your ideal wedding photographer.
1 :: Rain, hail, or shine…. find a wedding photographer who understands the Southern Highlands weather.
We’re known for moody mists and ethereal fog, and of course, a drop or two of rain – throughout all seasons of the year.
It’s important to choose a wedding photographer who has experience in Southern Highlands weather conditions, because they can change in an instant.
And you know what we love about the locals behind the camera?
They’re also super savvy at capturing the mystical atmosphere and creating those magical [Insta] memories in your wedding photos, no matter what mother nature throws at you.

2 :: Clash or match….Find a wedding photographer whose personality aligns with yours.
When it comes to picking the right photographer, find someone suited to you as a couple.
Are you after fun and flirty or do you want something more soulful and romantic?
Picking the photographer that has a personality to match your vibe is super important.
Once you find someone you click with [haaa…see what we did there?] you’ll relax more into the day and you know what?
They are with you ALLLLL the time on your big day so you gotta like them!

3 :: Low-key or lavish? Find a wedding photographer with a package to suit.
It’s the first question everyone asks – how much do wedding photographers cost?
And the second question you should ask YOURSELF is how much have I allocated for it in my budget.
Sticking to your wedding budget is very important and photography can range from including all the bells and whistles with a full day’s coverage [or more if it’s a weekend party!] heading down the modern micro-wedding route with just ceremony coverage.
Get all the costs up front, including how much albums, reprints and digital copies cost.

4 :: Secret spot….find a wedding photographer who knows the local hot-spots.
Sssshhhh…be very very quiet……there are some phenomenal wedding photographers out there, but not all of them know those special spots in the Southern Highlands for those wow factor wedding shots.
Look for a photographer who has worked at local wedding venues like the stunning Bendooley Estate with all its huge range of perfect photo opp spots – paddocks, stables, book barn, cottages, heritage homes, lakes, gardens….all in one spot! Impressive, right?
And we love a naturescape too which the Highlands offers up in spades……waterfalls as a backdrop, stunning lookouts, forests…..find a local photographer who can whisk you away to capture that ultimate wedding moment.

5 :: Connection and collection…find a photographer with vendor connections and an amazing portfolio.
An easy way to find a great photographer is to ask your other vendors.
A lot of the Southern Highlands wedding crews have worked together many times before.
Your celebrant or venue might know a photographer that’s just right for you.
Sometimes the choice can be overwhelming, if you’re given more than a few great recommendations, ask to see their portfolio and for testimonials.
Testimonials and pictures from previous weddings will give you a great indication of the final product the photographer can create, but also of how they worked with the couples to achieve the photos for their special day.
