Description
Spanning more than 4 hectares, Katanning’s Sheep Saleyards is the largest undercover saleyard in the Southern Hemisphere.
You can’t really grasp the vast size and scale of the Saleyards until it’s full of sheep, which you can see being unloaded from giant trucks and into 1,008 selling pens on Tuesday afternoons or sold during the sheep selling complex’s weekly auction on Wednesday mornings.
Watch the hustle and bustle from the yard’s viewing platform before heading to its adjoining cafe to enjoy a classic country cook up.
Visitors should ensure they wear enclosed shoes when entering the Saleyards.
Head along on a Tuesday night for a feast by White Gum Cafe. Featuring heart-warming dishes like melt-in-your-mouth lamb shanks and gooey sticky date pudding. The Sheep Saleyards restaurant, uniquely located right next door to the Southern Hemisphere's largest undercover sheep saleyards, serves up what we like to call “country on a plate”. It’s the type of food that hugs your tastebuds and leaves you feeling warm all day long.
Tours of the facility are available outside of normal opening hours by booking with the Saleyards Manager. See website for more information.
