Where to get your brunch fix in the Highlands

How good is the deliciously wonderful experience of catching up with friends for a lazy brunch?

Or having a leisurely late brekkie with the family in the sun at one of our gorgeous local cafes?

We love it.

So, what’s so darn good about brunch??

Is it the way your poached egg pops perfectly when you pierce it with a fork?

Is it the piles of pancakes washed down with the zing of a healthy juice?

Is it the smell of amayyyyzing coffee?

Or is it simply the fact that someone else has done all the cooking [and cleaning up!] for you!

Whatever it is….we’re always up for a little brunch action, so did a little hunting around to see where we can get our brunch fix in the Highlands.

Oh, and here’s a list of more local cafes so you can share the love too.

1 // Exeter General Store

A local favourite and great spot to catch up with friends [especially on a local market day when the village is buzzing!].

The team at Exeter General Store do brunch soooo well. The Eggs Bene is a winner, as is the egg & bacon roll [the onion relish on it is super tasty].

And they often do brekkie and lunch specials, so keep an eye on their socials for those.

2 // Gumnut Patisserie

Oh, hello delicious pastries. We’ll happily devour anything and everything from Gumnut Patisserie for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack – any time of the day. But if we had to choose for brunch? Please don’t make us choose! How do we decide. Sweet? Savoury? It’s too hard – we’ll take one of them all. And a delicious coffee, too please and thank you.

3 // Highlands Merchant

Coffee fanatics and foodies know Highlands Merchant brings the goods. Open from 6 am, 7 days a week you can’t miss that black, white and blue shop-front in Mossy.

The meals are handmade, the vibes are fab and the staff are friendly. Nice!

4 // The Mill Cafe

These guys are super kid-friendly and located right in the heart of Bowral. The Mill Cafe sure does serve up a mighty mean brunch.

If you’re feeling like a feast try the ‘The Mill Monster Breakfast’- bacon, chorizo, roasted toms, spinach, mushy’s, hashies, eggs and sourdough- oh my! They’ve also got a kids menu so the littlies can brunch their hearts out as well.

5 // The Shaggy Cow

This award-winning café in Mittagong is a local favourite and is a fab location for vegetarians with plenty of meatfree brunch options on the menu.

They are open Thurs – Mon and we recommend you book – it’s popular for a reason!

6 //  The What If Society

These guys opened up their bricks and mortar space in Mossy in 2021 and have now graced us with a second spot in Burrawang. They’ve become a firm fave with locals [especially those lucky enough to live nearby.]

Last time we were there, we had buttermilk crumpets with rhubarb jam – gawwwwwd, it was so good.

7 //  Janeks Cafe

The all-day breakfast at Janeks Cafe is pretty legendary. And it means if you have a late start from a hectic night before [hellooooo celebrating being able to hang out with friends again], this option ticks all the boxes!

The Janeks team is open for dine in with outdoor options available.

8 //  The Press Shop

It’s iconic and one of the most popular spots to brunch [+ be seen brunching] in the Highlands. Why? The food, the drinks, the gorgeous decor. These guys have got it allllll goin’ on.

9 //  Burrawang General Store

Allpress coffee, a beautiful fire in the centre of the cafe perfect for warmer months, seasonal menu and baked delights fresh out of the oven every day….it all adds up to a fab brunch experience at this iconic Burrawang spot

10 // Raw & Wild Bowral

A stunning menu with a stack of super-healthy options, these guys are awesome for catering for those of us with dietary requirements. They do some sexy smoothies too. Oh, and Raw & Wild is licensed so if you fancy some bubbles with your brunch, who are we to judge?? It’s lunchtime somewhere in the world, right??

11 // General Store & Cafe Berrima

These guys have been pumping out the brunch goods in Berrima with a lot of love and laughs. You need to follow them on Insta – it takes some serious self-control not to lick the screen. Not. Even. Kidding.

We love the Mexican eggs, smashed avo and firm fave, the fritters at  The General Store & Cafe in Berrima

12 // The Boston Ivy 1880

The ivy-covered exterior of The Boston Ivy 1880 in Mittagong is just the start of all of the pretty [and deliciousness!] Awesome coffee and simple, honest food done so well. Our fav? Bacon Panini, baby!

13 // Wingello Village Store

Okay guys, who’s up for a traditional English breakfast with all of the stuff??

Wingello Village Store do a cracker Grande Breakfast with everything you can imagine piled high on the plate – sausos, bacon, mushies, tommies, eggs, hash browns, baked beans and fried onions. Seriously, sooooo good! And the perfect weekend heart-starter!

14 // Moonacres Kitchen

Captain of the ship, Stephen Santucci, really knows his way around brunch at this organic farm, restaurant and cooking school in Robbo. The menu is regularly changing and there is a real focus on farm-to-table ingredients- love it!

Last time we visited we noshed down the bacon and egg miso roll and tbh we’re still thinking about it!
