Stunning views of Belmore Falls in the Southern Highlands and across to Kangaroo Valley from spectacular lookout points.
A beautiful plunge waterfall just a short drive from Robertson, Belmore Falls is a stunning spot to take visitors to show off the Southern Highlands [on Mother Nature’s behalf, of course!].
And if you don’t know what a plunge waterfall is [we didn’t until we looked it up!], it’s a waterfall that doesn’t hit any of the escarpment on the way down. There you go! We were today old when we found that out.
Now, it’s really important you stay safe here. The walk to the bottom of Belmore Falls was closed a few years ago – it’s just too unsafe and unstable. So stick to the approved paths.
And we recommend that you view the falls from the lookouts at the Belmore Falls Walking Track, not at Barrengarry Creek which is essentially the top of the waterfall. Stay where it’s safe behind the barricades especially if you have young ones with you.
All right!
Here’s what you need to know about exploring Belmore Falls.

FYI This was taken with a drone with the drone operator at a safe distance from the edge!
Family-Friendly :: While the Belmore Falls Lookout Trail has barricades, we recommend hanging on to little ones.
Easily Accessible :: It’s just under a 15 minute drive from Robertson. Turn right off Illawarra Highway into Sassafrass Way just before you hit the rail line if you’re coming at Robertson from the west. This will turn into South Street and then you turn right into Belmore Falls Road and follow that all the way to the falls. You can also turn into Meryla Street right next to Robertson Public House & Kitchen which will also take you down to South Street.
The road is windy and gravel so take care, especially when it’s wet. Its been damage by recent rainfall so keep an eye out for potholes.
Follow the signs to the Belmore Falls Walking Track, and you can choose which car park you end up in. We park in the first one you hit – the Hindmarsh Lookout car park – and do the loop from there.
Dog-Friendly :: Nope, it’s part of Morton National Park.
Stairs :: The walk up on the gravel road is mainly flat but there are is a small amount of stairs down to each of the lookouts.
Length :: The loop is about 1.8km
Time :: Anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on how enamoured you are with the views, how many selfies you take [safely!] and how much time you have.
Cost :: No cost
Good To Know :: If you access Belmore Falls from the other end of Belmore Falls Road via Wildes Meadow, there is a fjord to cross which often has water across it. Sometimes it can be quite high and smaller cars can’t make it through. We recommend always accessing the Belmore Falls Lookout Trail from the Robertson side of Belmore Falls Road.

Loop the loop
Start at the first car park. This will give you access to Hindmarsh Lookout. You’ll see a trail leading off to the east of the car park. Follow it down to the lookout for stunning views across Kangaroo Valley.

Keep following the path around and you’ll come to the first lookout where you can take in views of Belmore Falls.
It’s a bit far away but great for wide angled shots.
Further along the path – a fairly brisk five minute walk – there is another lookout that is closer to the falls.
It’s still a fair way from the actual falls but gives you a great sense of their majesty and it’s pretty special to see the water cascading into the pools below.

You can wander back via the pathway you came or pop up onto the gravel road where the car parks are and head back to your car that way.
It does get a little busy during the warmer months on weekends and during school holidays, so it’s good to get there earlier or later.
Go later and you’ll get some stunning sunset shots from the second lookout.

What to do afterwards?
Well, we absolutely recommend heading back into Robertson and spending the rest of the day there working your way up and down the main street of this fabulous Southern Highlands village – here’s our Guide To Robertson for everything you need to know.
And lunch at Robertson Public House & Kitchen is an absolute must!
