The biz is owned and operated by lovely locals Alex and Lucy, who just can’t get enough of escape rooms themselves, so much so that they decided to open up Fox in a Box.
“Selfishly, we love escape rooms as a fun activity to challenge our minds and have a laugh. We also love the Southern Highlands, and when we discovered they didn’t have one, we thought with our experience we might be able to offer a great escape room experience and provide locals and visitors with a new, exciting, fun activity,” they say.
When you’re both major fans AND experts, you just know they’ve got it covered.
What Makes Fox In A Box So Much Fun
Fox in a Box is such a winner thanks to its pretty impressive technology, testing, and refinement.
“Technology-wise, Fox in a Box has a team of electricians and programmers on hand to continually develop and create exciting new puzzles. This makes sure that we’re always at the forefront of escape room technology,” adds Lucy.
And it’s not just tech, it’s loads of global experience too.
“With over 30 locations across the world, the sheer volume of data that can be gathered from the franchise allows for constant refinement from lessons learnt to ensure that all the rooms are always as exciting and immersive as they can possibly be,”
Nice!
The Four Themed Escape Rooms You can Try In Bowral
Fox in a Box currently offers four themed rooms, each with a unique experience:
Life Sentence (Easy): In this one, you have been wrongly imprisoned by a corrupt warden, and you and your cellmates have to work together to break out before it’s too late. The Life Sentence room is great for first time escapees and sees players separated into cells and then having to work together to escape from prison.
Zodiac Killer (Medium): The notorious serial killer has returned, and you wake up in his apartment. You don’t know when he will be back, but you and his other captives will have to work together to solve his twisted puzzles to escape. The Zodiac killer is a fan favourite, and is for 15yrs+ due to its adult theme, with a few jump scares along the way.
Mastermind Heist (Medium): Your team are the world’s greatest bank robbers, and you’ve just learned that the infamous United Bank is holding $30 million of diamonds in their vault. Break in under the cover of dark, disable all the security systems, and escape with the jewels before the cops arrive! Mastermind is great for families.
Bunker (Hard): It’s the Cold War, and a double agent has stolen the nuclear launch codes and initiated the launch sequence. It is your job to find the briefcase and disable the launch before it’s too late! Bunker is a more traditional style escape room, and whilst first timers definitely enjoy it, the team generally recommend it to more experienced or larger groups.
Who The Escape Rooms Are Suitable For
The answer is, well, everyone!
“The rooms are designed for the whole range of ages and abilities, and there is no wrong answer! Coworkers get a lot out of completing a challenge together, escape rooms are great for date nights, families tend to get quite competitive, and friends always have a lot of fun and laughs,” Lucy and Alex tell us.
In terms of age, it’s for ages 10 and up, and in regards to numbers, the rooms are for 2–6 players.
Why Fox In A Box Is A Must-Try Bowral Activity
“A common thing that we hear from locals visiting us is ‘Bowral, really needed something like this’.” says Lucy.
Sure, we’ve got a ton of tasty places to eat, but what do we get up to when we need to give the old tum a rest?
Turns out Fox in a Box is the answer.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide a fun and exciting activity to fill a hole in the market and hope that it can complement rather than compete with all the wonderful things on offer in this amazing part of the world.”
So good!
And it seems creating the rooms hasn’t been without its laughs, too.
Lucy told us that during the build, she and Alex accidentally locked themselves in the rooms and had to sheepishly call each other for a rescue… so funny!
Oh, but don’t worry, that was before the emergency stop buttons went in, hehe.
A night out with the gang, a family adventure, or an out-of-the-box style date, Fox in a Box Bowral promises an hour of smart, immersive fun you won’t forget.
And as Lucy reminds us.
“It’s just fun! An hour of escapism that creates memorable experiences as a group. Old or young, big group or small, there is something for everyone. We are yet to meet anyone who didn’t enjoy their escape room experience!”
