Police say the incident began about 1.55pm on Wednesday 26 November 2025, when officers from the Southern Operations Support Group attempted to stop a vehicle on Lismore Street, Bellambi.
According to police, the black hatchback allegedly failed to stop, prompting a pursuit that continued onto the M1 Motorway at Albion Park. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle reportedly broke down near Tongarra Road, Albion Park, where officers arrested a 38-year-old man.
He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station before being transferred to Shellharbour Hospital for assessment. After his release from hospital, he was returned to the police station and charged with:

Police say the man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 on Thursday 27 November 2025.
