16 Days Of Activism: Stand With Pop In To End Domestic Violence And Abuse

From November 25th to December 10th, Pop In is inviting our Wingecarribee community to unite for the 16 Days of Activism, a global campaign aimed at ending domestic violence.

The purpose of these 16 days is to raise awareness, spark important conversations, and take action toward creating a future where every woman and child can live without fear of violence, and Pop In, is proudly part of this movement.

Pop In is a local hub in the Southern Highlands dedicated to supporting women and children who are experiencing domestic violence and abuse. Their mission is to help create a community where safety, respect, and dignity are the norm for every woman and every child.

They’re on a mission to empower our community to take action and stand together against violence, and the 16 Days of Activism is a great way for us to do just that.

Pop In has created a series of actions that everyone can take to support this important campaign. Whether you donate, volunteer, or simply have a conversation, every action matters.

Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Attend Light The Night

On November 27th, join in on the powerful evening of solidarity at Light the Night, where we’ll remember the lives lost to domestic violence and take a stand for change. This event is an opportunity to come together as a community and show that we will not tolerate violence.

2. Sponsor a lantern

Make a direct impact by sponsoring a lantern for $500. Your contribution will support Pop In’s vital work in our community of providing resources, workshops, and community outreach for women and children escaping domestic violence. A lantern sponsorship is a meaningful way to honour lives lost and support the essential, ongoing work in our community. Head here to go ahead and sponsor a lantern.

3. Take the 16 Days, 16 Ways Challenge

Commit to completing as many tasks as you can over 16 days. Each action, no matter how small, is a step toward ending violence and brings us closer to a safer, more equal future.

Here are some tasks you can complete….

  • 16 Acts of Kindness: Do 16 small acts of kindness in your community. Offer to help someone with groceries, buy a coffee for a stranger, bring in your neighbour’s garbage bin from the street, or simply give someone a genuine compliment. Demonstrate kindness and respect.
  • Club chat: As your sports and social clubs wrap up for the year, pop on a spot of orange and grab a photo together. Make a commitment to respectful behaviour and keep each other accountable.
  • Attend Light The Night: Carry a lantern to show your support for ending gender-based violence. Find the event details here.
  • Bake sale: Bake a cake or a batch of cookies and sell them to friends, family, or colleagues. Donate the proceeds to Pop In.
  • Orange outfit: Wear something orange the official colour of 16 Days of Activism, and tell someone why you’re wearing it.
  • Sponsor me: Take part in a sponsored activity, walk 16,000 steps, run 16km, or challenge yourself to do 16 push-ups a day!
  • Watch, talk, share: Watch this incredibly impactful clip and share what you learned with a friend. Watch as a group and discuss what you can do to make a difference.
  • Info session: Organise a Pop In info session at your workplace, social club, or P&C group.
  • Speak up: Share one of Pop In’s social media posts or a post from another domestic violence organisation to your feed. Use the caption to explain why it’s important to you.
  • Talk to a mate: Watch this video and have a conversation with a male friend, family member, or colleague about what healthy, respectful relationships look like. This is great education.
  • Organise a pantry drive in your workplace: Talk to your employer about hosting a pantry drive and help fill Pop In’s Community Pantry with essentials for local women and families.
  • Start a conversation: What is domestic violence and abuse if it’s not physical? Take a read of this useful resource.
  • Tea and talk: Invite a few friends over for coffee or tea and a chat about the campaign. Collect items together as a group donation for our community pantry in return for the cuppa and biscuits.
  • Post a commitment: Post a commitment on social media about how you will contribute to ending domestic violence and abuse. Download this tile and use #PopInCommitment.
  • Host a fundraiser: Host a small fundraiser event. This could be a charity movie night, a garage sale, or a morning tea.

4. Share the message

Raise awareness by sharing Pop In’s posts on social media. Use your platform to educate others about domestic violence and the 16 Days of Activism campaign. Every share helps spread the message.

5. Beyond 16 Days

The fight doesn’t stop after these 16 days. Join Pop In’s regular giving program and help provide ongoing support for women and children. Even a small, consistent donation can make a world of difference.

Domestic violence is often hidden in silence. The impact of this violence is felt not just by the victims, but by their families, friends, and entire communities. Pop In understands that breaking the silence starts with awareness, conversation, and action. When we come together, support survivors, educate our youth, and hold ourselves accountable, we create a stronger, safer, and more compassionate community for everyone.

Volunteers are the backbone of Pop In, and it’s through their dedication that Pop In can continue to provide free, community-based support for women and children in need. But they need our help. Whether it’s donating, volunteering, attending events, or simply sharing the message, every small step counts.
